The hotel's interior gives a nostalgic feeling, especially the restaurant and bar, they are quite old school and make us feel like stepping into a time machine. This can be said for the room amenities as well, where the bathroom pipes are due for replacement (rusty pipes and loose fitting tap). Otherwise, no major complaints as the location is really... I stayed at Syuen Hotel at the beginning of December. Given that this is a 21 year old Malaysian hotel, I would say that the condition is still acceptable. However, the furniture and carpet is starting to show signs of age and a good round of renovations is due. The design of the furniture as well as the bathroom are... More

This is an old property needing an update quite badly. The housekeeping is not to standard, and the bathrooms are not only worn and dated but needing a good cleaning - e.g. mold on the grout and caulking. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedroom are a plus. They have a small pool. Oddly, there are no towels supplied at the pool.... More

Nothing different from my 1st stay in this hotel, everything is fine but the breakfast quality still can be improved. The hotel is nearby Ipoh Parade and with walking distance, you can find hawker stalls opposite Esso petrol station.

The size of the room is big but the finishing and furniture are a bit old. These still can be tolerated. The cleanliness of the bath room is totally unacceptable. There is thick and black color mold around the rim of the bath tub and the sink...I mean "THICK"!! I have inform the hotel personnel and the reception. The receptionist... More

What do you say about a tired old hotel? First word is "quaint". Seemed clean enough (more so than the Kinta River). Block out drapes didn't meet up, so changed rooms. 'Hot' water was a mere 29C. Not fixable in the short term. We were offered a room on the 8th floor, but with 1 night to go, just didn't... More

I spent 2 nights here as part of a business trip. The hotel is quite large and grand as you enter. There are escalators taking you up to the lobby as soon as you step in. The staff were friendly but awfully slow. Checking in seemed to take a really long time. The room was nice. Comfortable bed and clean... More

Despite a late check-in of past 8pm, the hotel had a well furnished, modern room available at a very reasonable rate. The bathroom was a little small though but well equipped. Noticed a convention was booked in the hotel. The convention participants were all Australians and they gave the hotel the thumbs up. The hotel restaurant was quiet with only... More

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! - Yes this is undeniable. Its well located (as are a few others) in the centre of Ipoh Town/City. Walking distance to many great local eateries (they even have a map at the lobby entrance to help you out!) BUT... its definitely dated in décor, upkeep and staff quality (over the muslim festive period of Raya). Selected... More

I booked a family room with a double bed and a single. After entered the room, I realized there's no view from the window as the room window is facing dark inner side of the building. The room is dim and insufficient lighting. Immediately I called the reception to request a change of room. The room change was uneventful and... More
