Drove from Kuala Lumpur on the way toward Phuket, we were caught with unexpected delayed and had to overnight in Alor Setar. Being without hotel reservation, we had to find the best available accommodation possible in this border town. Hotel Royale was our best option for that night. The earlier comments...are they really talking about Hotel Royale.I have different opinion. To me the Hotel is not only cheap ( budget Hotel ) but also clean if I compare to some budget hotel that I have been. Toilet and bedsheet are clean and they even give morning newpaper for free. Nothing more I can ask from a budget hotel.Bonus..if... More

Bathroom had a "buzz" all the time. We found out that it was water pressure on the system. The only way to stop it was to leave the tap on permanently. Couldn't really do that so we closed the door and plugged our ears. Towel rail was laying broken on the floor. Electrics were a nightmare. Switch on a overhead... More

Access to the hotel's large car park is via the neighbouring garage, meaning cars exiting the garage could block entrance. The smart-looking foyer was quite impressive, as was the adjoining restaurant, but the toilet is external (around the back) was in poor condition. Rooms were fairly spacious but shabby.
