The name sounds great but its as like that when you visit. A bit of traditional set up in the rooms. Looks good but falls short of the expectation. Its good for the budget traveller.try it you may like it.

My room had seen better days in the past. The bed net had holes, and the mosquitos were smart enough to find them. The air conditioner dripped water. The tiles in the shower were falling out. Paint was peeling off the walls. The door lock mechanism had clearly been jimmied at some time, and wasn't totally repaired. Water pressure was... More

Location: You can walk (of course only during the day time) to the city's market and many nice restaurants. Blantyre city center. Room: Spacious rooms. My room had a small balcony which was good to enjoy the morning coffee. My room also had plenty of sunshine. They do have some water pressure issues, sometimes it is okay and next minute... More

I have stayed in other older hotels in Malawi, and they have this kind of time travel charm to them. This one has no charm to it whatsoever. It is simply an older very tired hotel where management is not even trying to run it well. Green pool, broken window mechanism in my room, fluctuating water pressure, bad food are... More

Malawi Sun is a great place to stay in Blantyre. It is in the city centre so you can walk to restaurants and the business district. I requested a room away from the construction and was placed in Block 2. I have a nice little balcony to sit outside and enjoy the weather and the view. I can see the... More

The Hotel is located in Blantyre city centre. The reception is small and adequate manned by friendly staff. The room that i stayed in was 304. It had a sit out behind which there was construction going on so it was noisy. The room was spacious with bed made with logs, soft mattress, pillows. It has wardrobes again made of Half... More

In the 4 years that we have guests in Malawi Sun Hotel the service is going backwards. Ask for a special room, you don't get it. You take a shower and you can swim in the bathroom. Maintenance is also going backwards. Breakfast is poor. Time to find something else.

The good things first: Good location, security seems adequate, staff in general friendly, food quite good. BUT: At least some of the rooms not really in acceptable condition, with more than the usual wear and tear, mold on the walls, appliances very much 20th century. All this at a hefty price. There must be better places to stay in Blantyre.... More

Had planned to stay for at least 2 nights but regretted and ended up staying only for one night with family--paid USD156 for a double room. The place is in need of an overhaul--repainting and renewal of furniture etc. You will come across dirty/soiled ceilings in some of the rooms, dirty curtains in need of laundry, non-functional bed lamps etc.Breakfast... Whenever I am going to Blantyre I stay here only as they make you feel at home. It is very popular even among locals for variety of food. It may not be the most sophisticated hotel but whatever it lacks in those terms it definitely makes up in hospitality of its host and manpower. People here are willing to go... More
