What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location! My mother and I treated ourselves with a four night stay here after a work trip in Nakuru... and what a real treat it was! Idyllic, lush green gardens with thatched cottages leading down to a warm, coral-dotted, turquoise sea. We had a superior room in the new block which we really... more

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at Hemingways following a safari. This is a superb hotel for a relaxing break, with superb food and exceptionally friendly service from all departments. We stayed in a junior suite which was split level and extreemly comfortable. If you do consider this option just check that it has a balcony. Dinner... more

Leaving the Uk blanketed in snow it was a delight to arrive at Hemingways to warmth and beautiful surroundings. We had five nights here before moving on to a small boutique hotel and although we much enjoyed our stay, it was unexciting. The superior room was large and comfortable, although the lack of air conditioning in the bathroom a little... more

One can understand why the Kenya Tourist Board have awarded this resort 5 stars because of its Big Game fishing facilities, but frankly if you are not a fisherman, there is very little to do. The hotel is clean and comfortable but a little jaded. The thatched roof looking particularly tatty. On an international scale it would probably rate 3... more

My husand and I have just returned from this fabulous hotel. Staff are great fun and look after your every need. Food is fantastic - five stars to Omar and his staff! Rooms are large and comfortable and the beds are turned down every night with flowers put on the pillows. Do not miss the afternoon teas! Be prepared to... more

A little piece of heaven! The hotel was lovely, the staff could not have been more helpful. Everything beautifully clean. Food was amazing and so much! Expect to put on weight. Lots of lovely extras such as afternoon tea, roses on the pillow at night. The bar staff were great and drinks not too pricey. The cocktails very drinkable. Cant... more

Hemingways is a fairly good tourist hotel, food is good, staff a bit too tip driven for my liking. There is far too much concrete. It's all OK,but it thinks it's a fabulous hotel,it's not,it's an above average tourist hotel. In my opinion the real thing is Peponi's on Lamu, superb! more

Take an idyllic location and add a plethora of staff whose one aim in life is to ensure that you’re enjoying yourself and you’ve got the measure of Hemingways. From the utterly charming manager, Garry Cullen, to any of the many chambermaids and garden staff and all the under-managers, waiters and boat attendants in between, you’ll find a smiling welcome... more

One of the best places I have ever stayed, the food, the service, the beach, the pool ... brilliant! Definately the best staff I have ever been served by. Only downside being probably the rooms, they are nothing special although more than adequate with aircon and all the noraml things. Aparently the new block come next year will be better. more

Beautiful setting on the beach at Watamu, with a marine park in front of the hotel, crystal blue sea and white sand. Food at the hotel really was excellent. Staff were great. Used Acquaventures dive school at the hotel next door which was very professional. Saw lots, even sea turtles, particularly the second week when the visibility was better than... more
