I stayed in this hotel in May 2009 and again in July 2009 both were business trips. The first stay I had a room on the 12th floor. It was small with no air conditioning and a fan which did not work. The decor was basic and the TV required a card to be inserted into a decoder which allowed... more

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I stayed in the "superior deluxe" room and was shocked when I arrived. The lobby was of reasonable standard, however when I got to the room I was less than impressed. Feeling the bed was the equilavent to touching the floor, (actually not joking) the room looked dirty and completely... more

Many Almaty hotels charge a small fortune for a so-so room. Being able to get something for under $200 a night that is not a flea bag is actually a find. And this hotel is in a good location for walking around town. It also has free wireless internet in the lobby which is great- internet is still a big... more

Hotel Kazakhstan is an ex-Soviet hotel in a tower block. the staff are helpful but limited in their English. Rooms aren't airconditioned but each has a fan and the windows can be opened which I found sufficient. The hotel has a formal restaurant and and a English style pub/grill bar which is very good. There is free wi fi in... more

I stayed at Hotel Kazakhstan in May 2008 and can't say that it was a very pleasant experience. I was on the 9th floor and the room looked like it was built in 1920 - the bathroom was decrepid, with holes in the tiles, really disgusting bathtub that looked as though there were permanent stains in it, found 2 roaches,... more

Probably the most well known hotel in Almaty, we arrived at the Hotel Kazakhstan very early after an overnight flight. We'd booked the hotel's car service but for some reason it didn't turn up at the airport (we arrived early and waited until the arrival time we had specified when booking) so we took a regular taxi. Unless you're a... more

This was my first visit to this hotel (for business, 3 nights). Hotel Kazakhstan is a well maintained and well run hotel, with a large breakfast buffet. Several of the reception and restaurant staff speak English very well. My single room rate in March 2008 was 27000 tenge per night including breakfast (224 USD). Airport transfer was 3000 tenge each... more
