If you're particularly tall or big you will find the bed too small, as we did. We estimate it was a double. Otherwise the hotel is really central, close to the train station and well cared for - as described by others in their reviews. European styles, nice sheets and towels and the luggage storage facility was appreciated.

Thank you for staying Hotel Monterey Sendai. Our hotel's concept is European city Prague in Czech Republic. Our group hotel's concepts are characteristics of each Earopean cities and we hope that you can enjoy these atmosphere. Except our bed size, you seemed to have a good time with us. Thank you for your valuable comment. We are looking forward to... More

A very nice Hotel with atmosphere located close to the center of Sendai. The rooms are a bit small but clean and well equipped. The staff is very nice and in spite of its central position, it is very quiet. The breakfast buffet is very delicious and the restaurants in the hotel have high class.

This hotel is not your typical Japanese hotel. It is decorated in a European style and for example has interesting illustrations from France along trhe corridors. My room was very comfortable. The onsen was very relaxing and well-run. The staff were helpful. The location was very conveniently near Sendai station. I would definitely like to stay here again.

They overbooked us, but arranged for us to stay at Monterey Hermana. Not only did they book everything, they shuttled via taxi from the first to the second. All bags were taken directly to the room, effortless for us. The next day we packed and left our bags in the hotel, walked around and went to the Monterey (not the... More

This hotel is very short walk from train and subway. Nice deco classic style. Nice size room especially bathroom. Complete amenities. If they include spa it will be perfect (now they charge 960 yen!!) Guests may find lobby area quite dull but i think they intend to keep the ambient like old medieval castle :) I loved elevator. Quite classic.... More

A lot has been written about the Prague castle theme of this Monterey hotel. It does have a bit of a fortress feeling from the outside, complete with the entrances being somewhat hidden - odd first impression. Inside it´s all rather dark and cave-like, a feeling that extends to the rooms. They are ok, clean like most hotels in Japan,... More

well the rooms are very comfortable and as always like all hotels in japan smart use of the area, the bathroom is really dealt with care , the hotel is designed like an ancient history hotel where the elevator looks old and the whole style of the hotel is historical, the loopy is so small, there is no wireless in... Location is okay, staff friendly and it's not too noisy from the street. However, the rooms need renovation and proper cleaning. I had lots of dust and hair under the bed. Also the furniture look a bit too used.

My wife and I were in Sendai for a business trip of 5 days and found that The Monterey is an excellent choice for a short stay in Sendai. Although the foyer and reception area are a little peculiar, as stated by another reviewer, our room (mid-range, 'Bohemian Grace') was very clean and comfortable, and a very good size for... More
