I have stayed at this hotel several times, including a 3-month stay a few years ago. The hotel is located adjacent to the Katahira campus of Tohoku University, but is also close to the Ichibancho shopping area, and a 10-15 minute walk from Sendai Station. Breakfasts (both Japanese and western-style) are absolutely wonderful.

I saw one and it was fitted with antique furniture and looked very comfortable. The hotel is run by a mother and daughter. The room and facilities at Sumireh are excellent. My ryokan was not completely traditional as... More
