This ryokan is very conveniently located in the centre if the matsuyama onsen district. It's been newly renovated and the rooms smell of new tatami mats and very clean. It's very comfortable and the staff are friendly. The food tastes great, though i'd say the portions are very small (it's trying too hard to be nuvo cuisine and attract the... More

We stayed at the Hotel for 1 night in mid December 2013. We chose the Hotel based largely on the reviews on internet. The hotel is located in centre of Dogo-Onsen, and we enjoyed walking and shopping around the small town. The room was well cleaned but I felt the room is a bit aged. (Maybe it has been renovated.)... Hotel Chaharu is a wonderful place to stay, the staff is courteous and friendly. Dinner was great, we had a kaiseki dinner in our room. Dishes were beautiful and tasted delicious. Roof top bath was amazing, Two individual wooden tubs and a larger bath area were available to sooth your feet and body after a day of sightseeing and shopping.... More
