I stayed in the hotel on 23/5/2015 night. The hotel is at the sea fromt just next to the sandy beach. Not much to shop in the vicinity. The outlook pf the hotel is simple. Inside it is cozy and clean. The staff are all nice and helpful. I had very nice dinner and breakfast here, super tasty! For the... More

This is a stylish hotel with private onsen next to the beach. Staff are speaking very good English unexpectedly. The dinner is different from other traditional onsen hotels. You can choose teppanyaki and enjoy the chef is cooking in front of you. It is worth staying.

Stayed one night for onsen whilst touring the jigoku (hells in Kannawa). Service was excellent just like any other hotels. Unfortunately, only one staff spoke good English and the rest communicate with broken English. I arrived at around 1pm and was told standard checkin time was 3pm. Was still able to leave my overnight bags so that I could go... More

At first appearance Hotel Umine looks depressing. Don't be deterred. The interior is like a new world. Everything brings a sense of serenity. The interiors are nicely designed and decorated and perfectly maintained. You'll find yourself speaking in hushed tones and moving quietly. Our room was easily four times larger than anywhere else we stayed in Japan. There was a... More

A small hotel but big in terms of room, service and excellent breakfast and dinner. The rooms have an attached onsen where hot spring water are piped in. No need to go up to the small rooftop open air pool.for your soak in. The Japanese breakfast is exquisite. And the teppanyaki dinner in the basement restaurant was of great value.... More

This hotel looks very ordinary on the outside. Step in and you'll find a small but very well planned hotel. My room opens to sea view windows. The private onsen also has a wonderful view of the sea and beach. The onsen can easily accommodate two and its view is great. The spa in the hotel is very good too.... More

I love the room and food here. We stayed 2 days and had 4 meals here. With trendy design, the room is big, clean and comfortable. There is a private onsen in the room. We can enjoy hot spring while enjoying the sea viewin Beppu bay. The food is great. All dinner is served in their restaurant. We had Teppanyaki... More

I stayed for 2 nights in April-2014. I chose one of the bigger rooms with the own private onsen. Just outside the hotel is a wonderful beach which i can view directly from my room. The room is massive (90m2) for one person. The Onsen is facing the beach but they got metal railing to block the view due to... More

Hotel Umine is a small hotel a few blocks away from Beppu Kitahama station. We particularly loved our room where we had a private onsen, a spacious living room with drink-all-you-can mini-bar, classical music and a good view of Beppu Bay. Very modern interior but the onsen will remind you of traditional Japan. There is an outdoor onsen on the... More

I was lucky enough to spend a night at Beppu. I found this place by chance. I found this establishment to be much more upscale than other, more traditional Ryokans. My room had a private tub in its balcony. The food was excellent, as with the service. The phrase very popular in Japan at the moment, "o-mo-te-na-shi" (translated to hospitality)... More
