decent hotel , seems to cater for japanese business travellers. zero facility. only stay here if you wanna catch JR early in the morning. won't say its good value for a budget traveler. there is a super market right in front and a tram stop that get you in town for 15 mins.

The hotel was just okay. Nice exterior but just okay interior. Overall the rooms required an update. The appearance reflects its ageing wear and tear. The body soap and shampoo holders in the shower constantly fell into the bathtub during showering. Wifi was enabled inside the room. The breakfast buffet selection was very good and I do highly recommend taking... More

I had a conference in Kumamoto and I tried for a few other hotels nearer to the main section of town and closer to my conference but all were booked, and the travel agent recommended the New Otani. Since it is a very reputable chain in Japan (with a beautiful hotel in Tokyo in the Akasaka area) I agreed. My... More

We stayed at the Hotel New Otani in Kumamoto for 2 nights on a recent trip to Japan and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very reasonably priced, clean, comfortable and quite spacious (for Japan). All the staff were very friendly, efficient and spoke good English - the concierge was especially helpful. The hotel is conveniently positioned about 1... More

The hotel is with fair charge and good location. Room is big, clean, and comfortable. Although this hotel is not very modern, but good to hv a few days for travel.

Room is spacious in Japan standard. Located very close to JR station. A good choice if you want to catch up morning train on the next day. Room is clean but decoration is a bit old. Very quiet in the dark as most of the shopping malls are near Kumamoto Castle which is about 15-20 mins by tram from hotel.... More

This hotel is a 2 min walk from the train and tram stations. There is also a bus stop right next to the hotel for the bus trip to Kumamoto Castle. The room I stayed in was a suite, which they upgraded me to for free. The service here was fantastic! The handle on my roll around suitcase had a... More

The location is just excellent, just next to the train station! Tram and tourist bus are also just outside the hotel. Service is good and staff is very helpful. English language knowledge is above Japan standard for hotels, although considered normal for this kind of a hotel. Rooms are nice and bigger than average Japanese hotel rooms. Their breakfast is... 3 minute walk from the train station and the tram line. The tram will get you to all tourist attractions in Kumamoto cheaply and swiftly. Nice hotel, good room, a bit bigger than usual in Japan, very clean. Good breakfast with Western and Japanese choices. Also close to car rental offices in case you want to explore the Mount Aso/Yufuin/Beppu... More
