Very friendly and polite staff in a hotel that is conveniently located just a few steps from the shopping arcade and within walking distance from Kumamoto castle. The rooms are a bit small but are very clean. The breakfast is only Japanese style.

We managed to book Wasuki despite an event in Kumamoto causing most hotels to be fully booked during our time there. The location was fantastic, just above the shopping street. However, parking options were limited and we were asked to park at the public carpark a street away. The rooms were slightly dated, but spacious and comfortable nonetheless. Breakfast options... Pros: - decent size room, decoration is a mix or modern and historical - has bathing facility at the top floor - convenience store nearby, lot of food choices around that area - free wifi in the room Cons: - walking distance to the Kumamoto castle (but it's a good 20-30min walk, some uphill) - parking garage is detached, around... We also stayed here last time we were in Kumamoto, and I reckon we will always stay here everytime we come to Kumamoto because of its location-right there in downtown Kumamoto city Kamitori shopping street. The staff are nice and friendly, and breakfast buffet has a generous selection but it does get abit boring if you stay for a week... More

I only spent one night at this hotel, my hosts having booked it to give me a taste of a traditional Japanese inn, before moving me to somewhere more "normal" for the rest of my stay. I've no way of knowing how "traditional" it is I've no experience of traditional Japanese inns, but it was certainly a bit different in... More

The location for Kumamoto Castle is fantastic. It's why we picked the property and it delivered. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious but honestly they could use a little bit of paint and some tender loving care. A little bit of paint and perhaps some new tatamis would make this property even better. The room... More

We stayed here with a group of 10 for a Karate training camp. This hotel was positioned well near Kimotori, wher you can get a good range of delicious food. Not so easy to find after wondering around, all the alleys look similar, although after a few days we didn't have any problems. Found an awesome noodle bar, that had... More

Spent a week in Kumamoto with a group of 10, answer were all happy with our rooms and the service at the Wasuki. As some others have posted, there was a slight musky smell in the lobby, but other than that, everything else was fine. The group are going back to Kumamoto in the future, and I would consider staying there again.... More

I loved the location of the hotel it being walking distance from the shopping street, tram stop and Kumamoto castle. However, the smell of the hotel rooms was something I really didn't like. It was a musty smell that (I think) came from the tatami floors. I've stayed at other Japanese hotels with tatami flooring, but they never had such... More

I stayed this hotel for one night. The hotel room is very Japanese style and it was like a Ninjya room. The room had beds with Japanese tatami mat room. The hotel is located next to shopping arcade (Kami dori) and it is very convenient. You can walk to Kumatomo castle in 5mins. You can get a tram from JR... More
