I love the atmosphere that can be feel only in a tipical Japanese ryokan or minshuku but as time goes by there are a few remaning. Nakazono Ryokan has a 50 years history to tell to guest (the building is quite 100 years old), don't waste the possibility to know it ;). The Owner will help you for any question... More

The accommodation is certainly adequate if basic, and not the best ryokan we stayed in. What stood out for us was the helpfulness of the owner ... e.g. we arrived late fancying a Chinese... so he walked us to the restaurant. If you want service this is good place to stay.

Our family loves Nakazono Ryokan. It’s true that the ryokan is not modern, and isn’t very sunny in most rooms, but it has real character, and lots of eccentricities, including samurai armor in the living room on the second floor, which make it positively charming. Most of the rooms are simple – a room with a futon or two on... More

We had a lovely time staying at Nakazono-san's ryokan. The place has so much charm and character. It has a fantastic atmosphere. Our room was very big and clean. Location was great and Nakazono-san was helpful throughout. Stay here, you will not be disappointed.

I landed in Kagoshima Airport very late at night and arrived at Nakazono Ryokan tired and hungry. Mr. Nakazono was so nice and walked with me to a nearby Izakaya where I had wonderful late fish dinner and a nice chat with the local owner. Mr. Nakazono was also very helpful in suggesting interesting places to visit in the area... More

From the moment the door slides open you are made to feel very welcome. The master and his wife are very accommodating and very helpful - even stretching to entering our room and putting the heating on a couple of hours before we came back from mid-winter volcano-viewing. The old house is a bit creaky, but it's very comfortable and... More

Very fond memories of staying here, despite the fact that we were forced to stay 3 extra nights (screwing up our itinerary) due to a super typhoon! Yes it does have a slightly weird 1970's youth hostel vibe and it's kind of patched up, but I got the overriding feeling that it's been honed over 40 years to be the... More

The place is a bit old. The toilets are weird, its hard to close the door as the toilet is too far forward. And the place is a bit old. Also Lonely planet's map is a bit deceptive it can be a bit hard to find with car. There is not that much option in this town though. This place... More

I can only echo everyone else's comments. The ryokan is well located and the owner will pick you up and drop you at the ferry, which is great. When you arrive he will take the time to tell you where every thing s and where you can find different restaurants are. Our favourite quote was a dead pan description of... More

I have rarely read a set of reviews that I felt summed up a place so well. This is an old somewhat dilapidated property. However, it is well run, in a good location and the owner is very helpful and manages to provide the small touches that make the place worth going to - if you are not too fussy... More
