Modern, friendly, easy-to-find, and easy to reach nearby destinations. The easy ferry ride to nearby volcano island is a must. If time allows, a visit to Ibusuki, about one and a half hours by train to the south, invites a great hot spring experience where one is buried in geothermic sand.

Had fantastic stay at Richmond Tenmonkan in May 2010 - very friendly staff, facilities ultra modern. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. Right in the middle of the city so lots of restaurants close by.
