The feeling you get when you enter the property is: "Is this a guesthouse"? "Where's the reception desk?", and most important of all: "Where's the staff?". I have stayed in several hostels and guesthouses across Japan, and while some may be cheap, they are at least clean and tidy. This place is the exception. We made last-minute travel plans for Fukuoka and this was the last place available. The guest house is nicely located in central Fukuoka near the Tenjin station. Regarding the positive things I can say about Aloha Spirit that's about it. It started with booking a room. The owner is friendly, but has almost no English skills. The rooms are dirty ,unclean and with homemade bunkbeds. Location is great. Where to begin... If you've ever stayed at a sketchy, hole in the wall, guesthouse for less than $10 USD in a less developed country and are used to roughing it a bit by yourself, this is the place to stay in Fukuoka. The worst hostel experience of my life. Dirty as sin, the shower didnt have a floor and the tiny kitchen doubled as an office - paper, empty beer cans and noodle packets everywhere.
