We had planned to stay in Kyoto but couldn't get a decent hotel, so we had to cast our net a bit wider and the Royal Oak came up. We hit gold (sorry for the mixed metaphor). The hotel is only a short taxi ride from Seta station (note Not Otsu) and from there it's only a 17 minute train... More

This hotel is great for families with kids. Although it may be about 25 mins drive to Kyoto main town, this hotel more than makes up for it with its level of service and the spaciousness of its room, which is seldom seen in hotels for the budget conscious travelers to Japan

When you enter this hotel it is quite clear that the Main business of this hotel is to organize weedings. Nevertheless it is a very good hotel. I had a really large room (not only large for Japan but also large compared to european standards), 2 beds, desk, couch.... more than I would have expected. Unfortunatelly I didn't have Lake... We stayed there only only one night and the hotel was fully satisfactory. The staff were agreeable. The price was reasonalbe. The court yard was beautiful. The breakfast was pretty good. And our room had a nice view of Lake Biwa. We love the hotel and if we return to Otsu, we definitely stay there again.

Great services, good breakfast, clean, large rooms... Facilities were really good Poor level of English but staff were doing there best to help Main drawback is the location Few restaurants (italian, sushi bar, mc donald´s and a couple more) at a walking distance. The hotel teppanyaki restaurant is extremely expensive but good. I stayed at this hotel with my parents... More

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, and we got a upgraded when we check-in. The price was really cheap, I paid only 8000 yen for 1 night (not included breakfast), very value for money The room was very big and comfortable, although there was no lake view. The hotel had western decoration, when you walked in it just... More

This hotel has spacious rooms, spa, and the ambiance. Nice retreat from busy areas, but the transportation is a bit awkward as you will have to wait for the shuttle bus of the hotel to go out and come back as there is no public transportation nearby. It is off Kyoto City. The only thing I did not like about... More
