This hotel is in great surroundings and the old-fashioned style was extremely exciting to me. I had a nice double room with all the conveniences overlooking the vast gardens, fresh kimono and bath towels everyday, lovely amenities. All was clean and the staff includes several members who speak good English. The hotel is well located, within minutes from the central... More

I enjoyed staying at this old hotel... if the walls could talk! Take some time to view the montage of pictures of notable visitors in the hallway off the main lobby. We stayed in the old wing - the room had two twin beds, a small bathroom (with a half-sized bathtub). It was small, but there was still room for... More

This is Nara's oldest western hotel and the main building is quite beautiful, with high ceilings and fireplaces in the room. There is a newer wing but I was after a old world experience and chose to stay in the atmospheric main building. The rooms have an old world feel but do have flatscreen TVs and WiFi. The charm of... Beautiful old hotel - worth one night's stay (but don't stay on the weekend where the cost was $350 / night!!!). Dining was very expensive and the food was not great. Walk down town (takes about 10 minutes) and you'll have 50 options for dining - all more affordable and better than that in the hotel.

This hotel has a distinct 1970's feel. There is some charm to that, but much lacking as well. In a property this size one would expect a fitness center; there is none. Restaurants are expensive and the European menu is extremely traditional. Service is a little stiff. The views, setting, and location in relation to other points of interest in... More

This is a beautiful old hotel but way over-priced. Probably worth it for one night but no more than that. The restaurant is not great and yet charges exorbitant rates. A better choice is to walk down to the town or take a taxi to the more reasonably priced restaurants there. We made reservations for 2 nights but wished we... More

You're paying for the experience here. The architecture and setting of this hotel are straight out of a movie, and that made it worthwhile and memorable. There is even a 1960's (?) Rolls Royce parked at the entrance which adds to the ambiance. Just check the traveller photos. Would note that the rooms, even in the 'new' wing were a... More

The location is very convenient and the hotel setting is beautiful! The hotel sits on top of the hill overlooking a pond. The hotel building has a beautiful old Japanese style architecture. Though the hotel looks tired inside and needs some remodeling. The room was a disappointment. The carpet had big stains and the bathroom floors around the tub had... More

The Nara Hotel was a bit of a splurge for us, but was well worth it! It is in the park that runs through the middle of Nara and easy walking distance to temples, museums, and the Nara-machi shopping district. Our room was in the new wing and was larger than our master bedroom at home. It was quiet, lovely... More

The Nara hotel trades on its cachet as an early 20th century western style grand hotel. However, the hotel has less impressive physical spaces than you might expect, and the public areas are quite warn, although the rooms are in good condition. Prices are higher than they should be, but note that discounts were offered for multi-day stays on the... More
