Following advice from fellow reviewers we knew what to expect here. Yes, the drinks and food are expensive and the rooms aren't large but having said that the atmosphere is great, Again, if you like a different type of experience stay here. We hired bikes from the hotel whcih were delivered to the front door - then we cycled off... More

This stately old hotel has a lot of charm. Rooms in the older wing - where we stayed - are not particularly large, and the bathroom was positively tiny, but it had everything we needed. Best aspects - the location, in Nara Park, and the fabulous and fun bar.

A nice historical hotel located very close to sightseeing places to visit in Nara. Rooms have unbelievably high ceiling which is very unusal for Japanese hotels. Historical means interior equipment is old but this is nothing if you are ready to enjoy antique and elegant atmosphere. One negative comment; a young lady who lead us to the room said that... More

We booked a double room with breakfast through Expedia. We paid in advance prior to arriving in Japan. After entering the breakfast we were refused breakfast which caused us great embarrassment. The reason given was that the Expedia rate we paid was insufficient in the hotel staff's opinion. We contested this with proof of our reservation but were met with... More

Nara hotel offers a traditional Japanese Ryokan experience. If you haven't had the pleasure, you should definitely try it. Everything is wonderful, the hotel is close to Nara park where all the attractions are, the staff are friendly. However, the room is a tad on the smaller side, and they don't bring breakfast and dinner to your room - as... More

We had a one night stay in the new wing of the Nara Hotel. The rooms were very big and the beds were comfortable. The room was great. Apparently you had to pay for the coffee/tea service in the room, which can irritate some, but we didn't really care. The rest of the hotel was rich in character. The restaurant... More

As most reviewers already pointed out, this hotel is beautiful yet a little outdated. We booked the twin room in the main building with the courtyard view. The room is spacious and comfortable, especially in the afternoon when sunshine comes in through the window. As noted by some reviewers, the bathroom for the twin room is too small. I could... More

This 109 year hotel has welcomed celebrities from around the world but still welcomes regular tourists with great style and service. Wide halls, high ceilings, large windows and creaky floors. With a stop for the bus limousine at the hotel's drive, the hotel is adjacent to both the wide Nara Park and three significant temples/shrines and the narrow streets of... More

We were a family of three visiting Nara staying in a Japanese-style room for two nights (the hotel offers Japanese and Western room styles). Like many hotels of its era, the Nara Hotel draws heavily on its past and has been a favourite haunt of royalty over the years. It is clearly a favoured hotel for weddings and conferences. Unfortunately,... More

We stayed at Nara hotel for 1 night but we would have loved to stay longer. The old building is beautiful. We decided to walk from Nara station which took about 30 minutes. It was a hot day and up hill so I recommend getting a taxi or bus. The walk back the next day down hill was a lot... More
