You can't beat the location, right next to the park, and from the outside, this Grande Dame is charming, but even for Japan, our room was tiny and overpriced. We stayed in the old wing but the furnishings seemed pretty new and everything was spotless. There was a tiny bathroom, small bed, and not much clearance around the bed to... more

What can I say? I read a bad review about one of my favourite hotels so I just had to respond. We have stayed at the Nara Hotel twice, once in the old wing near the Emporer's room and once in the new wing, on two separate trips to Japan. We generally try to stay at value hotels but break... more

We stayed 2 nights in mid-May in a so-called deluxe twin in the old wing. The room was very small and we had trouble finding a place for our luggage. The room was clean but very noisy. We had a view of the park (which you couldn't see because of the trees), however, we were facing onto a very busy... more

We stayed at the Nara Hotel for 2 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful building, lovely spacious rooms with high ceilings and old-fashioned styling. Very clean and well-presented. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel in years, all tasty and freshly prepared to order (bit expensive but... more

I would agree with most reviewers. It is a nice old grand hotel. It has well renovated (except for the old pipes that keep banging...) and has kept its old charms. Biggest rooms I have seen in Japan so far. This being said it is not worth the price. We paid U$280 for the cheapest double room. We came to... more

I can only confirm what the other reviews say. The place is absolutely flawless. We stayed in the old wing and I was only wishing it would be more than for one night that we did. The twin room we had was a good size, had all modern cons and nice free toiletries. I would definitely recommend it! more

Stayed at the Nara Hotel January 2008 in two superior singles that included breakfast (bed and breakfast special booked on their website) for 15,000 Yen per room, approximately $140 USD. The room was the largest I stayed in throughout Japan. My mother’s room was the same, and she was thrilled during the entire stay at the Nara. Although we had... more

We stayed in the old wing of Nara Hotel for one night as part of our honeymoon. Wow! What a perfect hotel! The room was huge, with ridiculously high ceilings and a lovely fireplace. We enjoyed some tasty room service ice creams. But the best thing was the location - right on the border of Nara Park. The Todai-ji temple... more

We stayed at the Nara hotel for two nights in August as part of a trip to see the temples in Nara. We really enjoyed the hotel, particularly the traditional and welcoming atmosphere, the personal and professional service and the fact this seemed like a unique hotel with its own history. From the moment we arrived, we were looked after... more

This is a grand old hotel and it's showing its age. The room was very large and furnished with good quality authentic antiques, but it was a bit dark and dreary. The en-suite bathrooms were fine. The location is good; you can walk to Nara-kōen park and all the sites within. The old and authentic character reins throughout the hotel;... more
