On a scorching summer day we were greeted with ice-packs, iced tea, kakigori (shaved ice with syrup) and a warm smile. This was an amazing experience. It has so far, been the best accommodation I have had in Japan. It is clean, traditional, the rooms are large and the lady who runs it is absolutely lovely. The dinner and breakfast... More

Excellent hotel, excellent service. Small yes, but so a friendly and helpfull service ! Two larger rooms so ok for two couples/families, both very quiet and hence the shared bathroom and washing machine are not an issue at all ! Next to old Nara (Naramachi) and 10 min walk from Kofuku)ji and all other tempales and places to visit within... More

We stayed in Nara last April and it was a pleasure to stay in Hotobil. It is true that you can skip staying overnight in Nara as it's an easy day trip from Kyoto and it's easy to see all major spots in one day, but since we had been travelling through Kansai and were heading back to Tokio, we... Firstly book the big room with the verandah, it's huge and beautiful. The lady who owns the place was very helpful and does a huge and fantastic breakfast, also great fresh smoothies. It was sad that we had arrived just after she lost her beloved pet...always nice to share pets on our travels.Fresh flowers, home made bread lots of nice details... My girlfriend & I stayed here for 2 nights in late May 2014. We wanted to experience living in a Japanese house with local food and we were not disappointed. Mieko's food were amazing even with our diet of no meat. Breakfasts included in the room rates were generous servings including home baked bread rolls. We ordered dinner for both... More

This is an amazingly lovely place to stay! The hostess is sincerely gracious and was very helpful- allowed us to check in early, provided us with information about transportation, called a taxi for us, etc. The room is large and beautiful with fresh flowers an altar place with traditional scroll, room also has some comfortable chairs and table and a... If you want the perfect experience in Nara I highly recommend this guesthouse where all of your needs are taken care of by the most attentive, passionate and caring host I have ever met. To begin with, the house itself is a tradtional Japanese house with beautiful tatami rooms and a gorgeous dining room overlookiing a tradtional stone garden. Upon... More

Stayed in this guesthouse only overnight. Typical and lovely Japanese house in Nara area. The hostess is nice, kind and warm. Welcom tea and cake made us feeling like home. Delicious breakfast with homemade bacon, jelly, bread and yogurt. Clean tatami quilts and towels. Two rooms with shared bath and toilet however.

The hotel is a small house in the residential area, very close by to the attraction itself. I was warmly greeted by a greentea cake and the Japanese Tea. Meiko - the owner, chef, cleaner was the best. It feels like staying at your Mom's place. The hotel is actually a renovated home. A must to stay in if you... More
