This guesthouse is excellent: it's an old Japanese home, which is a great experience. Both dormitories are located upstairs, with a common area and kitchen/diner below. The showers are a little dated, but in keeping with the feel of the place. Possible improvements: let the guests control the air conditioning, oil the front door, and replace the freezer with a... Right at the doorstep of all of Nara's main sights, within walking distance of the train station. Very atmospheric guesthouse in an old traditional wooden building. Great service, good value and very high standard of the rooms and facilities. Warmly recommended!

We wanted to stay in a traditional house and this was great, with paper walls and creaking floorboards. It's over 100 years old and used to house a tea ceremony teaching school. So awesome! We shared a private room and slept on the futons which was also fun (though wouldn't want to do it every night). The staff are so... More

The hotel was small but looked like a traditional Japanese rest place and would be a good experience for people that wanted to experience the traditional Japanese life. It had a big backyard so it looked good too. It was also fairly close to the Nara park and all the attractions but The hotel itself was very difficult to find,... More

The staff here are absolutely lovely and speak very good English. They let us borrow a pen for the night when ours ran out, they gave us directions and when I needed to dry my fleece jacket in a hurry they hung it in front of the heater in the kitchen and kept turning it for me so it dried... More

I went to Nara for one night to catch the Omizutori ceremony and stayed here. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the location was perfect! They also rent bicycles and there are a few public baths nearby for which they provide discounted tickets. The house is also charming. It used to belong to a tea ceremony instructor apparently... Beautiful old Japanese tea house. Very quiet and tranquil. Had a lovely stay here the staff were absolutely lovely. Felt a bit of a giant Westerner as everything is so delicate- paper walls, tiny stairs. Would definitely go back.

This place is based in a traditional Japanese house that is over 100 years old, complete with rice paper walls, tatami floor mats, sunken tables, and a picturesque Japanese courtyard. I stayed in a double room round the front of the house, which was pretty chilly until we left the gas heater on for a while. The staff were very... More

We've got the true experience of staying in a 100-year-old traditional Japanese house here. The hostel is located quite far from the train stations, and there was only a tiny sign in front of the hostel that tells you that is the right place. We took quite a while and various wrong routes to reach there. Staff were friendly. Accessible... More
