I recently spent five nights at this ryokan. It is a family run accommodation, conveniently located and at walking distance from Nara's main attractions. The JR station is less than 10min away. The room I was in was simple but clean, the bathroom a full-plastic cabin. Breakfast was not included but I can really recommend it. Go for the Japanese... More

My husband, 6 month old baby and I stayed at Tsubakiso for 11 nights in November 2013. We enjoyed our stay very much as we were made to feel so welcome by the owner who went above and beyond to look after us and our baby. It is a small B&B style ryokan, so if you are after the anonymity... More

I have stayed here twice now, once by myself and once with my wife and young son. The Okami who runs the place is warm and welcoming with comparatively good English which makes the stay that much more relaxing. We had amazing food for dinner and breakfast, it is like food-art in presentation and great flavours. The location is convenient... More

I stayed in this ryokan with my parents in July 2010. I wanted something very special and for them so thats why I booked here, although it was very expensive (150 € per person per night). I was very dissapointed when we arrived. The house is a real japanese house, but it is old and shabby and not very profesionally... More

This is a nice ryokan, a little worn but still very romantic. The owner is so incredibly friendly (but not at all pushy) it is a little embarrassing (like you just dont deserve to be treated so nicely). Excellent location, short walk from the JR station, near the covered shopping streets and easy walk to the important temples, deer park,... More

This ryokan is family run and they are very welcoming and friendly. It only has three or four rooms and they are typical Ryokan style. Ours had a lovely view over the garden. Breakfast was either japanese or western and there was lots to eat. It is a little dated but this adds to the charm and the owner is... More

We spent one night in Nara and were very happy to have chosen the Ryokan Tsubakiso. If you travel to Japan you should definitely include at least one night in a ryokan and Tsubakiso is a great place to get a feel for the traditional japanese housing and lifestyle. The owner welcomed us with tea and was full of nice... More
