We didn't book sufficiently early to have any choice of hotel - had wanted to stay in Kyoto for the festival but everywhere was booked! We paid 48.000 Yen for 3 nights, room only, and 1,400 Yen each for breakfast per day at the Nara Royal. Excellent breakfast with huge choice of Western and Japanese hot and cold foods. Hotel... Clean, well equipped, and friendly/helpful staff. Room size only average. It's a 10 minute drive from the town centre and sights which may not suit everyone. It's a good hotel, nice rooms (not very big but in Japan even rooms in houses are small!), very clean and nice sushi restaurant downstairs. No room service and very few people speak English!!! Even at the reception they can't speak English. Otherwise nice people working at the hotel...if you're able to communicate!!
