This is a really lovely Ryokan. As westerners, we appreciated the experience of staying in a traditional Japanese hotel. The service was very good without being overbearing, and you can book a private onsen for those who do not feel comfortable sharing a communal onsen. It’s very spacious, so was a very nice welcome from being poked up in a... More

This was our first Ryokan experience and we would highly recommend this property. The hotel is located within walking distance of Nara park where you can feed the wild deer and see the Daibutsu (Big Buddha) which is one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful, we booked the Japanese room which was... More

More of a 4.5 star. Nothing was really spectacular to warrant the 5 stars. Had our names on the welcome board when we arrived. Located right next to Kofukuji pagoda with their outdoor onsen having a great view of it. Some reviews mentioned that it's possible for others to see you while bathing. While it's certainly possible, everything's quite far... More

Excellent location for sightseeing in Nara. The hotel is located right next to the park and temples. The men's outdoor bath overlooks the temple. The public baths are quite small and the outdoor and indoor baths are in different locations -somewhat unusual for onsen hotels. Sound insulations in our room were not great, we heard the rumbling from the walkway... More

Superbly located this Ryokan provides a fairly genuine Japanese Inn experience. You will not even need a taxi from Kintetsu station - a familiarising stroll through a nice arcade and past a small lake will take you to the front door. The attentive staff make every effort to ensure your Ryokan experience is a positive one. We headed straight for... More

Asukaso is a short walk from the Kintetsu Nara station and is very welcoming to non Japanese trying out their first ryokan. We had a tatami room with a beautiful view of the 5-story pagoda at Kofukuji and stayed for 3 days. Although the staff spoke only a little English they were incredibly helpful. Our credit card had stopped working... More

Stayed in this superior ryokan (Jananese style inn) for 3 nights. Breakfast and dinner included in costs. Having never stayed inn a atypical Jananese hotel before I was a lillte unsurevw what to expect but the experience was one not to be missed. I believe we were the only non Japanese staying in the hotel. Some staff had reasonable English,... More
