I spent 3 days with my family (kids: 7 & 8 years) in the Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel. I am a very spoiled customer but can say: Wow! What a great and deep experience. We felt welcomed from the very first minute. We loved the very friendly and attentative service be it in the restaurant or at the reception. The hotel... More

It is long overdue review as we stayed in the Hotel last winter. Kanaya located just beside the Kinugawa river, and within 5 minutes walking distance from the Kinugawa Onsen Train Station. It is a Japanese westernised type of hotel where we have option to stay at Japanese or western style room. We have selected the Western Room as we... More

I have just read the bad reviews and i have to laugh. what i loved about staying at the kanaya hotel in nikko was the complete Japanese experience. I loved being the only American probably in the town. I thought the food was beautifully prepared and delicious. the hot spring area was clean and well kept. The massage in my... More

We booked this hotel for four nights to see Nikko national Park and the UNESCO temples and shrines. It is 40 minutes by train and bus from the shrines and then another 40-50 minutes from Chuzenji Lake. If the hotel was world class nada bargain that would be one thing, but it is not. It's a nice hotel with excellent... More

Our room contained this book singing the praises of self-described "Dapper" Japanese hotelier John Kanaya and his dedication to modernizing the Japanese hotel experience. Without fail we can say after having spent ten days in Japan, this is the worst hotel in which we have stayed. Our room had two twin beds when we asked for a king-size bed, no... More

This hotel is very overpriced - $600 US per night - for what it is. It is one of the most expensive hotels I have ever stayed in and also one of the worst. I emailed to book a spa treatment for both myself and my husband 5 days before our planned trip and was told the spa was female... More

The Hotel has a beautiful elegant feel about it. The staff were extremely helpful. If there were language difficulties there was always someone at hand to help out and the food was elegantly served. Our room at its private Onsen that made it even more special.

they emphasize that they can offer customers the room with good river view, and there are pictures of sights from a balcony on their web sight. those are very beautiful. and I believed we could stay a room with a very beautiful view. but the room we had to stay is the one with the view of public car parking... My husband, our five-year old son and I stayed at Ryokan Kanaya for one night in October. The hotel facilities were first class. The lobby was beautiful. We had a western room with two beds. It came with a spacious tatami living room and a futon was laid out for us at night. So each of us had our owned... More
