We were greeted by a lovely lady with excellent English, who was extremely helpful. She helped us plan our new year's holiday around Nikko. The reception and breakfast area are cosy and feature a lovely pottery shop. Breakfast was fruit, bread, coffee and a boiled egg for a small cost, served at 0800 or 0830. There were additional items on... More

A little out of Central Nikko, this small lodge was clean, comfortable and cosy. I was allocated the corner room overlooking the river that runs right next to the lodge - a lovely view and the sound of the river running was lovely. I was there while it was quiet season - there isn't much soundproofing so could hear everybody... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The Inn itself was quite an experience for us coming from Scotland and never having experienced futons and onsen. We loved the Onsen and found it so relaxing after a day walking around the local sights. Our bedroom faced out to the river and it was good... More

We enjoyed this questhouse for several reasons. The staff were welcoming and helpful, our room was the largest and most comfortable of any ryokan or guesthouse we stayed in (with its own private bathroom and excellent fit-out) and bonuses included breakfast, forest views from the room window, and an onsen in the building. And best of all, as it is... More

We visited in October to enjoy the leaves and cool crisp air! Our room overlooked the river which we loved for the sights and sounds. We bought breakfast for $10.00 a person which consisted of fruits, breads and juice. Like one other reviewer, we were surprised it wasn't included in the cost of the room.. We also enjoyed the private... More

It was our first japanese style experience and we enjoyed everything - sleeping on tatami, wearing kimono and taking their famous baths. Room was spacios and lovely and the bath was a dream! I liked this hotel more than Nikko Turtle that was had to book and the stay there was disappointing. Annex is a little further to the main... More

We stayed three nights while seeing the temples in Nikko and climbing Oku-shirane-san. The hot bath (onsen) in the hotel is very nice. The location is fairly good and is not far to walk to the famous temples and shrines. Breakfast is very good, but for the cost of the room we felt it should be included. The room was... More

We stayed here for one night, and found the hotel to be okay. The room size is okay, however there was an odd smell hanging in our room. We thought this smell came from the tatami but it could have been something else. After telling the staff about this they sprayed some kind of spray in our room but this... More

Annex Turtle Hotori An is a nice hotel which is located near the main attractions to visit, you can walk to everything. You have a beautiful river next to it and it very calm when you are not facing it. We personally had a room which was smelling a lot like undry clothes and it did put our stay down.... More

25 minutes walk but only 10 minutes by taxi from Nikko station. Warm welcome with english explanation. Very nice and extremely friendly staff Naoko. Nice Japanese bathing with view on the river. Also with kids this is a very nice place. Good breakfast and fairly close by the World Heritage Shrines(15 min walk). In short: extremely good service, nice hotel,... More
