This ryokan is located next to a river. Crack open the window and the sound will lull you to sleep. There are a variety of accommodations here. I was lucky to get a bed, however, there are a number of rooms that resort to the original futons on tatami mats. There are several glorious baths in which you can soak... More

We went in the winter and arrived after dark. It was tricky to find, but it was really clean. The bathrooms were cummunal, but there were several private onsen rooms which were nice. We slept on tsunami mats which were comfortable. There was plenty of food for the continental breakfast. It was expensive, but everything in Japan is expensive. The... More

Turtle inn is great - the staff are very helpful with the map of the local area, plus information on where is good to eat. It is located very close to the main shrines and temples and also very close to the main road for the bus. The baths are great, and breakfast was also tasty with good portion sizes... More

Nice place to stay. Very nice staff and nice rooms. The ryokan is close to all of the main sites and not too far away from the station, about 20 min by foot. The only thing is that the washrooms are shared.

Very convenient location for Nikko’s best sites; long uphill walk from train stations, but close to bus routes. Comfortable pension type room with basic ensuite toilet/bath room. Breakfast and dinner optional but served in homey dining room. Two rooms for hot bath. Staff very willing to communicate, partly in English. Two recommended dinner restaurants, and two 7-11 type stores, nearby.

I have been doing a 'summer' clean out of cupboards and found a receipt from Turtle Inn Nikko dated 18 January 1996. I remember the Inn and Nikko with great happiness - caught a (public transport) bus up into the snow-filled mountains (slipped over a few times in the snow and I was the only tourist there - nice hot... We've stayed at the Turtle Inn twice, and both times the owners have been great - lots of helpful advice, and their English is excellent. The rooms are simple but the heaters work in winter and there's pretty strong wifi in the rooms. I've never had dinner here since they serve it one day a week, but their breakfast is... More

The ryokan was pretty good. Room not big but not cramped. Hotel is in a quiet area near the river, but easily walking distance of shrines and temples. It was a nice day so we walked there from the station (45 min), but the bus is easier (still have to walk 10 min from the bridge). In at least the... More

stayed there while in Nikko. The little inn is on the river, just a short walk form the Nikko shrines. The tiny road where they leads to the Abbyss, A walk by the stream definitely not to be missed (this is where their Annex is located). Room was very small, comfort OK. They have on site private onsen, which was... More

We loved the little town and very also happy with our choice regarding this hostel. Tatami rooms are quite big considering that during our trip some were just half the size but cost double. Facilities were clean, yet average standard. River is quite loud. If you are sensitive to noise at night, you might want to look for another place.... More
