I stayed in this guesthouse with a friend for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. It is more of a renovated old home so the rooms/bathrooms/stairways are quite small but it has a great warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owners were so helpful and kind and at night we would come back and sit around the table in the... More

The hosts at Nikko Guesthouse Sumica are very nice, and eager to exchange experiences and opinions about their country life and way of being. My boyfriend and I where there for one night during the festival... it's a very comfortable place at a good price. Thanks for your hospitality.

SUMMARY: Don't hesitate, is a good place to stay! :) I went to Nikko for spending the weekend visiting around and after researching places to stay, I found Sumica with very good references from backpackers al around the world, so I decided to try it! STAFF: Sato-san and Kumiko-san, the owners, are really nice and can perfectly communicate with you... More

The host, Kumiko san, was very kind to help me with local tourist attractions and restaurant suggestions that were not yet on trip advisor. We also had a great time talking about each others' travel stories and food. Later that evening we all played mini games with other hostelers and got our fortunes read! Definitely would come back

I stayed here for one night... it was fun. Location is just across train station/ bus stops with plenty of eating joints around. Very convenient. Dorm type accommodation meant staying together with people from different countries (France, UK, Chili, Thailand, Japan in my case), hanging out with them in the common hall (drinks, chats), taking a night time stroll to... Kumico-san is a fantastic host: quick to respond to emails, always helpful with travel advice, keeping her guesthouse immaculately clean. I highly appreciated the hot cup of tea offered to me after a long winter day in Nikko. I had a small Tatami room for myself, equipped Futon mattress (with three blankets, very good in winter), a small foldout table... More

The hostel is located at a highly convenient 3 minutes' walk from the train station. Amazingly I was able to secure a spacious Japanese-style tatami room on the second floor only a handful of weeks from the actual date. It was clean, aesthetically pleasing complete with an alcove and a wall scroll for the authentic Japanese feel, and had more... More

2 min walk from the station, though you'll have to take the bus (200 yen) to see the rest of Nikko or walk about 20-30 min quite up hill. Very noisy rooms. We were in a room at the 1st floor with wc on the floor while the shower was on the ground floor. No breakfast, no common area. If... More

I stayed here with my girlfriend for three nights in July 2013. The guesthouse itself is very close to the train station you will most likely arrive at when you come to Nikko - just 100m or so up the road. It is a very cute house, with good sized rooms and amenities. The best part about staying here is... More
