I visited this hostel solo, in mid Jul 2015 and enjoyed the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that the owners fostered fir their guests. The owners provided maps and useful tourist information, as well as a great evening activity night where we travellers and their friends played games and feasted on watermelon. The matriarch of the hostel is an apt fortune... More

Nikko Guesthouse is the most welcoming and friendly hostel I have ever stayed at. My hosts Sato and Kumiko treated me like family during my 3 night stay, and introduced me to many lovely locals who I am still in contact with. They took me out to sights and invited me out for dinner with them. The hostel is small... More

I slept in a small three people room for one night. The common areas are also small but owners are very kind people! They speak English and want to help you. You can use the kitchen. The guest house is so close to the train station.

Traditional Japanese home, small space. Friendly host and staff, nice very tasteful decor, adequate room, shower and toilet. Very clean! Useful kitchen and common room downstairs. They provide tea and hot water. Also you are welcome to use kitchen to make your own food. Very convenient location close to train station. They will keep your luggage if you are leaving... More

The most welcoming guesthouse we have ever visited. The owners were really friendly, relaxed and welcoming. They showed us around the place, which was very clean and ordered and let us choose our room which was lovely They talked to us about where to eat and helped us work out bus tickets and things like that. On one night they... More

Other than its super convenient location, Nikko Guesthouse Sumica is really cosy (the hosts renovated and decorated it with their own special touches here and there) and the hosts Sato and Kumiko were really friendly and helpful to give travellers advice. My boyfriend and I stayed in the private room which is a tatami room with futons and the space... More

I've lived abroad for 4 years and have backpacked around loads of countries, and Sumica is probably the best hostel I've ever stayed at. It's cheap (for Japan), clean, and super convenient - literally a minute away from the train station, the bus stop, and there's a bakery next door so you can load up on pastries and sandwiches before... Stayed here for a night whilst enjoying Nikkō, me and my partner booked into a 4 share room and were extremely happy when we arrived, it's pretty much opposite the station, staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was spacious clean and in great condition. I'm a tall guy and the bed was big for me, with curtains surrounding... More

This is my favorite guest house in Japan. I had wonderful time during my stay here. The owner is really hospitable and helpful. Dorm room tiny but clean, also the bathroom. There is well equipped kitchen with some seasoning to be available, free coffee and tea. The communal room is not big but sufficient enough to relax and chat with... More

The accommodation is clean and tidy. The owners are very hospitable and friendly. They kindly invited me to go walking with their friends in the mountains which was a real pleasure. I was really struck by how kind they were and all other people in Nikko. Thank you!
