Amazing unique place! For the price, you can't beat the experiences. I have been to many 5-stars hotel all over the world, and I am very happy with the little hostel. The architecture of this hostel and the serenity of the location (next to a river) is an adventure in itself. The bathing facilities is like WHOA..I noticed multiple people... More

This is a great base for sightseeing in Nikko and the surrounding area. The hostel itself is pretty special and hard to beat. The design of the building will blow you away - there are gorgeous wooden scuptures, Japanese style rooms and artwork and even kotatsu (Japanese tables with heaters to warm you up after a day out hiking!). Scout,... More

Stunningly beautiful location. Scout is an incredible host. So helpful and friendly. The coffee and breakfasts he makes each morning are the best I've had in Japan. The local food options are cheap, authentic and delicious. If you want to get out of the cities and explore Japanese nature on bike or by foot, stay here. I hope to be... More

This place offers a delightful experience, not only due to it's close proximity to incredible natural wonders, but in the great vibes of the hostel itself. Scout is a wonderful host; he went above and beyond to create a mystical experience for us in Nikko. He's created a truly unique and wonderful spot.

I found this place online searching fairly last minute. The hostel is very chilled out and rustic and the owner, Scout although quirky is passionate and inspiring. The room was good, the location was excellent, breakfast amazing (he even cooked us some Pizza's one night), local knowledge was thorough and the cliff jump was fun. If I visit Japan again... More

We fell in love with the pictures on the website but being here is even better. The weather has been hot (35c) so it's great for a dip in the river. Great host always looking for you to get the most out of your trip. Very caring for my daughters needs (vegetarian) and those traveling alone. Basic accommodation, great people,... More

The property is a former Onsen bath converted into a great hostel. The showers allow for free view of the river and are huge. I stayed in a dorm; beds were comfy. Toilets and showers clean. Breakfast included. Common areas allow for communication with other guests. The main gimmick is the remote location directly at a beautiful river. In summer... More

I have stayed here twice and I am planning my 3rd trip. It is a beautiful place in a spectacular location. I have stayed in the private rooms. These are really cool, they are big and have views of the river. Out side each room there is a toilet and washbasin. I have also stayed in the main house in... More

I spent 3 weeks in Japan last October/November and my week stay at Zen hostel(space riverhouse) was the highlight of the trip. The location seemed a bit iffy, being pretty far from the tourist area of nikko, and with no viable public transport in the area to go there, but that was never really a problem due to the included... We read that Nikko is a daytrip from Tokyo, but believe me: you want to stay in Nikko a few days longer. We had the best time. Visited the shrines and the amazing nature reserve. Scout was the best host. Being the experienced outdoortype, he provided uswith all the good info. We swam in the river, had a shower-with-a-view, pet... More
