Wonderful hotel! Secluded away from downtown hub.free hotel shuttle ~ 20 mins; could not see Lk.Chuzenji from our room, blocked by trees. Hotel staff was attentive. Food excellent ~pricey but worth it

This hotel is located about one hour bus ride from Nikko train station if you take the bus towards Yumoto onsen direction. There is a dedicated bus stop for the hotel and you will have to walk about 8 minutes from the bus stop. Hotel shuttle will pick up at Chuzenji onsen station which is about 45 minutes along the... How the staff in this hotel can all be so genuinely friendly is a mystery to me. The rooms are spacious, hot baths very comfortable and the food incredible. The hotel has a calm, unrushed and friendly character. My only gripe is that I didn't see any of the famous Nikko monkeys!

We really enjoyed our stay and would come again if we had the chance. Yes, it was quite expensive, but for the memories it was worth it. As others have mentioned, there is a free shuttle bus to the hotel, and also to 3 waterfalls in the local area. My memories will be of the beautiful tatami-matted room, sitting in... More

This hotel was more of a resort, set on a park across the highway from the lake. The hotel had a free shuttle to the nearby waterfalls (which were quite beautiful), and also down to Nikko and the temple complexes. There was also a regular local bus which would take you back and forth too. It takes about 30 min... More

This ryokan, high in the mountains above Nikko, is pure heaven. The food was the best we had in our two weeks in Japan, especially the yuba which is an artisanal soy delicacy. The rooms were immaculate and overlooked a lake. The hot springs baths - both outdoor and in - overlooked the lake. The service was impeccable and very... More

Its my first experience in Japanese Ryokan and I must say its definitely a very special experience. I love this resort, love the food, love the Onsen, the services, the room. It is a beautiful resort. Hotel Shikisai is located about 50 minutes bus ride from Nikko station. Access is not hard due to the efficiency of japan public transport.... More

We stayed for three nights in a room with a private bath. The view overlooked a wide patch of forest where the leaves were changing color, so the feeling was very private. The bath did take some time to warm up so we had to turn it on about 20 minutes prior to using it. I also used the common... More

The Ryoken was clean and the staff was very friendly. However I would like to start this review with stating that I got food poisoning from my exploration in the pre-set dinner. The food is very traditional kaseki. They serve a beautiful presentation and all the Japanese guests seemed to enjoy the food but since the staff does not speak... More

I visited Nikko in Sep 2010, but I thought it's really worth a review. This is by far the most expensive stay I have splurged in a night - SGD700 for their Japanese Style Guest Room with a outdoor private bath tub. Their service is personal, like many other Japanese hotels. I have to say that both their breakfast and... More
