The hot outside baths overlooking the fast flowing river were fantastic and very relaxing. The meals were of a good quality and the service from the staff was excellent. The grounds were well presented and the outlook across the river to the wooded mountain was great. The ryokan itself is of a modern but dated construction. The rooms were large... More

We stayed for 2 nights at this ryokan. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful despite the language barrier. The food was truly sublime - the best we ate during our holiday in Japan. Our particular 'room attendant' was cheerfully helpful. The onsens were fabulous. If you want a quiet and authentic Japanese experience this is it, situated on one... More

We only stayed in Hakone for 1 night, but we are glad it was at Hoeiso. The location is about a 10-15 minute bus ride from the train station (bus stops right outside the ryokan!), or a 7 minute taxi ride. If you want to do other things in Hakone, it's not on the most convenient public transportation route. The... More

Best ryokan so far. The dinner set is really delicious. Staff are very friendly and accomodating with our schedule. Very relaxing and beautiful scenery. We chose the mountain view japanese style room which is big and comfortable with aircon which is necessary in summer! Beautiful outdoor onsen which you can book privately after 7 for 30 min. Would highly recommend... More

When planning the trip we thought that after three days in Tokyo we wanted to chill out in a ryokan. Hours on the internet later we had a shortlist and then I saw a tip about hoeiso. It was in budget and looked good so we took a punt and hoped for the best. Well, we got the best! It... More

Public and outdoor baths were great. Always had them to myself, if you are worried about the public nudity aspect. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Stay here!

We had a magical experience in this traditional Japanese ryokan. Our stay was nothing short of wonderful. It was easily one of the most relaxing stays we've ever experienced. The food was amazing! Prior to our visit to Japan, we were quite apprehensive about Japanese food, but the food was so good at this ryokan that we forgot about any... More

Just like the other reviewers have said of this Ryokan, the location is a bit troublesome - especially if the Ropeway is closed. But I wouldn't let that stop you from coming to Hoeiso, if you are looking to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan at a decent price with a staff who is understanding of foreigners. I just recommend staying... More

The hotel is quite far from the Hakone train station. One way taxi fare costs about 1000 yen. If you are hungry when you reach Hakone, buy something from the 7-11 inconvenience store or the local shops before heading to the hotel. But keep in mind that all shops close by 6 PM. You can also reach the hotel via... More

Four of us stayed in Hoeiso for one night. It was difficult to each the ryokan as we travelled with public transport from Kawaguchiko to Hakone. But once we reached there it was easy to go around. By the time we reached Hoeiso we have already stayed in a normal ryokan at Mt Fuji and had many onsens. However the... More
