The place is only 8 minutes by bus from the main station Hakone Yumoto. The onsen indoors and outside are very nice, the rooms have a nice view (the lobby not so much). The staff is friendly and helpful in every way. For dinner (in your own room) you only can choose 3 times; 18:00, 18:30 and 19:00. For breakfast... More

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant stay here in November. We have stayed at a ryokan before in Kyoto and enjoyed the authentic Japanese experience Pros 1. The outdoor baths are excellent. These public baths are segregated by gender most of the day but you can reserve the baths for private use in the evening. Make sure to... More

This Japanese ryokan, tucked away in the Hakone Valley, is one of the best places I have every stayed. A truly wonderful experience that is totally relaxing and refreshing from a busy travel schedule. Our personal attendant, Kukuro, was attentive, warm, inviting, personable, efficient, great sense of humor, and made our stay a life-long memory. From the traditional ryokan, to... More

It is advisable not to travel with large or too many pieces of luggages when visiting Hakone. Hence we sent our large suitcases from Tokyo to Kyoto which is our next destination. Arriving at Hakone Yumoto train station, a taxi ride would be 1400 yen hence we took a shuttle bus No B which cost us 100 Yen each. The... More

We arrived in a taxi a few hours too early for our check in at 3pm, and were made to wait in the lobby. When asked hotel staff for recommendation what to visit nearby, we were told it is too far to get to most destinations, up to 30 min bus journey, so we decided to read books instead. The... More

We arrived at the Odawara train terminal at noon, and went directly to Hoeiso Ryokan. When we arrived, no one was in the lobby. After attracting the manager’s attention, we were told that we could not check in until 3:pm. We sat around for a few hours in the lobby waiting for our room. What a pleasant surprise. Our room... We stayed for 1 night (2 people) midweek in August. It is a short 10 min shuttle bus (¥1000) or the free pass bus from hakone yumoto station. Tell the person at the bus window you're going to Hoeiso and she'll direct you to the blue shuttle buses out front of the station. The stop is Kuzuhara so ask the... More

I stayed at this ryokan in June 2014 with my two children age 12. My mom and her friend stayed in a room next door. I totally overpaid for this room because they counted the kids as adults and I had to pay extra for the extra kid to be in my room. I thought it would be worth it... More

Based on our web searching we assumed we were visiting an old family ryokan. But this ryokan is more like a small hotel, built 50 or 60 years ago and not updated since. Stylistically that's interesting but also feels a bit shabby - images of The Shining at times. Our room was spacious and had a beautiful view. The screens... More

This was a return visit to Kijitei after my first 5 years ago and although the sights of Hakone is just as beautiful, we were disappointed with the rooms arranged to us as it overlooked a hideous carpark in the middle of the beautiful mountain scenery. Thankfully, the food was exquisite and just as great as I remembered years ago,... More
