Loving the moment from when we arrived until we departed. We used the ryokan association shuttle bus from Hakone Yumoto station to go to the ryokan (100 yen per person on a single trip), it took about 10 minutes. When we arrived, the hotel personnel already greeted us in front of the hotel and quickly ushered us inside and took... More

My boyfriend and I have just returned from Japan and stayed in this ryoken for 2 nights before going to Tokyo. This was the first time we had stayed in a traditional ryoken so we don't have much to compare it to, but we had a great time and although it was expensive, we decided after 2 days that it... More

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Hoeiso. This was both our first times staying at a Traditional Ryokan. From arrival, to departure -- everything was perfect! Although the staff spoke minimal English, there was no issues communicating what we needed. There is a slight learning curve for those who have never been to an Onsen (Public Bath); however,... More

This was a tryly unique experience! Dinner and breakfast is served in your own room and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I have a gluten-free diet and they tailor-made my meals accordingly so I could enjoy a fantastic traditional Japanese meal without having to miss out on parts of it or worrying about the contents. This was really... More

They upgraded our room for free, probably because there weren't many customers that day. We really enjoyed the pheasant hot pot dinner course. We loved the taste, and portions were big enough too. The outdoor hot spring is right by the river & hills. The view and sound of the river were very relaxing and soothing. I recommend that they... More

Hoeiso was just what we expected from our onsen experience. Japanese ryokan with good athmosphere, friendly and very good service, clean rooms and good bath. And of course the quiet surroundings where the biggest noise came from birds singing. Not a luxury resort but we we looking for a Japanese experence. Kaiseki ryori dining in our room was perfect and... More

I thoroughly enjoyed myself in this beautiful ryokan. The hot springs were great and the fact that you can book it privately at night is fantastic. MY friends and I really loved the outdoor hot springs and we went about 3 times on a one night stay! Nestled amongst the mountains it is a peaceful retreat with the sound of... More

I have high expectation for this trip after reading the reviews & browsing over their web, but I would only comment is not worth the price... The services is very good..all the staffs are very attentive..location is not so great but not a worry as their hotel shuttle bus is very efficient. ..The room is ok, very traditional and clean..But... The setting was spectacular and the front of house staff was very helpful and accommodating. The traditional meals served in our rooms were a delicious adventure for us. Booking family time in the outdoor onsen was a delight, listening to the nearby stream and looking up at the mountains with the snow falling lightly.

Having lived in Japan when I was younger I took the opportunity to take my mother and husband back to Hakone for an overnight stay. I chose Hoeiso because it represented everything a traditional Japanese Ryokan should. The Rotenburo (outboor baths) were amazing. I found it completely relaxing to sit outside under the stars in the cool night air and... More
