Everyone said, "You must experience a ryokan!" So we did. We chose Fukuzumiro because its prices were far more reasonable than most ryokans. My wife's reaction: "A lot of money for camping." Which isn't really fair; you do sleep on the floor, but the beds are surprisingly comfortable. Also unfair are other reviewers' descriptions of "old" and "run-down". Yes, the... More

I don't think the photos I saw online did this place justice. Sure, I understand it's an old and historic building. I also understand that quaint and charming can be sometimes be euphemisms for other less complimentary terms. Either way I won't be coming back. In summary: 1. Not that cheap. 2. Hurried service and reception by staff. Way too... More

The property was very, very old, I saw bugs in the room for several times, which makes me uncomfortable. The hot spring was great but very tiny, however it's a good choice if you are not comfortable with being naked in a public hot spring....The pros were great food, friendly staff, traditional Japanese life style. It's located just beside a very... More

At the beginning we thought this ryokan seemed a little old, but we quickly realised this was the charm of the place. Extremely clean and warm (we were there in the middle of Winter) we found our stay relaxing and special. We were looked after by Chiharu, who gave us excellent service. Good location close to town as well, so... More

The place is very traditional and is a great experience with very kind staff! I would definitely recommend staying here for 1 or 2 nights to get some peacefulness out in the Forrest after spending 5 days in the cool and crazy Tokyo. If it is peacefulness and beautiful scenery your after this is your place I enjoyed my time... More

Breathtaking views of garden and wild lush greenery from hallways and rooms. Quaint Japanese architecture gently fusing into the natural habitat and artfully framing scenery with sweeping windows and shoji screens. Unique world experience.

The atmosphere of this hotel is good. It's great for people who like to experience the old Japanese time. The hotel is full of history and the building itself is a heritage. I had a river view room. In the morning, it was wonderful to have my breakfast with the view. And there was a balcony that I could enjoy... More

What a lovely stay! We received the full traditional experience in this ryokan - a full Japanese breakfast and dinner, comfy futon mat sleep, wonderful hot spring onsen, comfy yukata robes and lovely views of the Hakone mountains. We had rainy weather which only made for a cozier stay. Fukuzumiro is clean and traditional and highly recommended. Special thanks to... More

We stayed two nights and were very impressed with our 'river room' choice. The room was situated directly next to the rushing river, the sound and outlook from our huge wooden windows was incredible, just what I was hoping for - like a scene from a Japanese story book. The staff and service was great, the house itself is fascinating... More

This was a very nice traditional ryokan. if you want to experience traditional Japanese accommodation, this is the place to come. The onsen (hot spring bath) was very nice but took some time to get used to as it was very warm. The breakfast was also good, with Western breakfast or Japanese breakfast available. Dinner was also very traditional. My... More
