This was our 2nd ryokan on our Japan trip so we had a decent idea of what was to come. The actual ryokan is lovely- beautiful wood, traditional garden and amazing location on the river. Our room was spacious and was right on the river. The location is convenient from the station as well. (There is a shuttle bus from... More

We went to Fukuzumiro knowing what to expect. The Onsen was wonderful and very relaxing. We did not mind having our own bathroom, it is part of the experience. We had a relaxing view of the river - but it is between two busy streets. Sleeping on the mat was quite comfortable. Unfortunately the server assigned to our room made... More

Fukuzumiro is a vey traditional Japanese style inn (Ryokan) and onsen (naturally heated hot-spring) that provides good access for touring the Fuji/Hakone area. It is an easy 10 minute walk up the main street from the Hakone-Yumoto train station (a lot faster that waiting for the 2 minute train ride to Tounosawa then trying to carry your bags down the... My husband and i stayed here for 2 nights in November. This was our first experience of a ryokan and whilst not everything is brand new and shiny it had wonderful character. We had an enormous "room" on the ground floor which was actually more like a suite with two rooms, a dressing room and our own private garden and... More

First time in a ryokan and loved it so much. When looking for ryokans in Hakone I thought they were all really expensive but please keep in mind you get loads a loads of really yummy food both for dinner and breakfast for this money. This was the nicest one I could find at a reasonable price. Looks a little... More

Fukuzumiro is indeed a nice place to stay and you can get all the local flavor you are not getting at Western-like hotels. At least our room helped us relax a lot and we slept like we hadn't in a long time! The view from our room was just breathtaking (river and mountain side) and the experience of an historic... More

I had great expectations coming to fukuzumi-ro, having read the positive reviews. But I was sorely disappointed by the experience. For one, there was no bathrooms available for private use. I either had to use the public showers beside the onsens, or occupy the whole private onsen just for a shower. We were instructed not to do a full shower,... More

We did have a wonderful time but I was not totally pleased with the hotel. They have 3 baths, one is private and super tiny (we didn't bother to try it but I think it would be great if you're a couple). The one which was for the females for most of the time was super basic but the one... More

Very friendly staff and a good dinner. I think it's a typical japanese ryokan and it's very authentic. The furnitures are too old. There are too many rooms without a private bathroom. I think if you pay more than 300€ for a night you should have a private bathroom (or at least a cleaning of shared bathroom each hour). Onsen... More

We spent our last two days in Japan at Fukuzumiro. Let me preface by saying that maybe we had been spoiled by our previous experiences in various ryokans and inns in Central Japan. Fukuzumiro must have been an amazing place when it opened 100 years ago. First some positives: great river views right out of our window, onsen bathrooms, interesting... More
