First of all do not be put off by what looks like a white monolith in the forest, it's what's inside that counts. Check in for 2 nights was efficient, our overnight bags from the station awaited us, our Room 205 was quite large & excellent. A blend of Japanese, raised tatami area with table, chairs, TV but with two... More

After looking around for a moderately priced ryokan-style hotel and not finding one, we tried this hotel. We stayed a Thursday and Friday night in early April and really enjoyed our stay. We had a "triple," with three single beds, but the room was structured so our daughter was on the other side of the room and a partition gave... More

This is a great spot for getting out and about in Hakone. We didn't book any meals but ended up having breakfast and dinner on all three nights stay - and they were great! Although we think a bar may be advertised, we don't think there is one. This ended up being great as there are lots of vending machines... More

Stayed here overnight! Easy check- in, although they had to go fetch an English speaking member of staff. Rooms are clean and spacious but did smell a little musty! We'd a fab view looking out over the mountains! It's very close to Lake Ashinoko for the scenic boat trip and the ropeway. We didn't have food as we thought it... More

The 4 of us stayed here and the staff were friendly and courteous - if a little confused that foreigners should be staying there. It's definitely a hotel that usually has Japanese visitors only, but don't let that put you off. The service is fine, the staff are friendly and the food is great. (just make sure you're on time... We were expecting the worse for this hotel after reading the other reviews but were pleasantly surprised. We had a very smooth check in and although accidently booking a room for just one person we were informed we could both squeeze in the room for a small added cost. We planned on spending as little time in the room as... More

I stayed here with my boyfriend in the end of the year. I chose this hotel because of their 4 free private onsen (hot spring) bathes which you can use whenever you want. Other hotels don't have private ones, or tend to charge per an hour. I was expecting to wait... More

We stayed in this hotel for one night between Christmas and New Years in December 2012 while exploring the Hakone region. Overall it was a very good hotel but I would recommend Hotel Hakone Powell (which I previously reviewed and which is directly across the street) instead of this hotel for a more tradition Japanese experience at half the cost.... The best thing about this hotel is the 4 private onsens available. Many people miss out the onsen experience in Hakone because of embarrassment or self-conscious about being naked in public. The truth is that the Japanese don't view nudity in the way others do. For them it's the same as sunbathing in a swimsuit. Having said that, I couldn't... More

As a solo traveler, I recommend this place to experience the mountains of the Hakone region and Japanese spring baths. It is quite a journey to get there (train-switch back train, cable car and bus!) for it takes all morning/afternoon (estimate 5 hours traveling). However, the cable car/gondola give amazing views of Mt. Fuji and the region. Day 1: Plan... More
