At first, we were taken aback by the slightly tired, old feel of our room given the reputation and cost of this famous ryokan. But time won us over entirely. Our room attendant won a special place in our hearts, and she will not be easy to forget. She was so kind and helpful and warm, despite that our conversations... More

If you're going to Japan, and can swing $700+ per night, per person, you should go to Gora Kadan. Great location, beautiful building, great food, amazing service, etc. The kaseki dinner was a thing of beauty and quite the experience in traditional Japanese feasting. While delicious, it can be a bit "precious" so we did shabu-shabu the second night, which... More

This place is beyond stunning. Service is terrific. Wish I had known to request a special menu for the kaiseki dinner. The food was gorgeous but too heavy on dashi for me. Gora Kadan met my sky high expectations. Don't miss the outdoor sculpture garden minutes away.

Amazing service. Great location. Excellent service. Spent a night here with my Mum and sisters as a day trip from Tokyo. We did not even leave the hotel to see the actual Hakone. The ryokan's onsen and scenery was enough to keep us occupied. Food was excellent. I highly recommend their homemade sake to accompany your dinner. For those who... More

We chose this hotel because we wanted to really live a full japonese experience (rooms... food... close to Fuji...) and it became a never to forget great experience! You stay close to a small village, just 10min till you get to the telepheric to see Fuji mountain. The hotel is the best we experienced in Japan (and we were in... More

We have just returned from two nights at the Gora Kadan. This was our third trip to fabulous Gora Kadan and it keeps getting better with our own private onsen and kaiseki dinners fit for a king. All the sakura trees were in bloom and the staff remembered us and treated us as family. The public onsen, including the rotemburo... More

Well worth visiting if you think that you'll never stay in Japan again. The ryokan is busy and you will need to plan ahead for your stay. Look at some of the pictures of the rooms. If you will be on a honeymoon you will want to stay in a room with private water feature. The room we had was... More

We stayed 3 nights and what an experience! From the minute we arrived we were pampered and looked after in true Japanese style. The food was an experience every meal and the helpfull hints how to go "Japanese" brought us closer to understanding the local cuisine and food habits better. Our suite was great and we had problems staying out... More

The first thing everyone will mention about the Gora Kadan is the price. Just put it out of your head. There is no price you can put on a truly memorable experience. You only ever come to a place like this once and nothing will ever replace the memory of sitting outside on a spring evening with a light rain... More

This was one of the best experiences we had in Japan. What an introduction to the gracious Japanese culture. The traditional Japanese meals were outstanding. The kimonos were so comfortable. The bath experience was relaxing. The service was impeccable. We hated to say goodbye. We highly recommend this hotel to all of our friends.
