Well worth visiting if you think that you'll never stay in Japan again. The ryokan is busy and you will need to plan ahead for your stay. Look at some of the pictures of the rooms. If you will be on a honeymoon you will want to stay in a room with private water feature. The room we had was... More

We stayed 3 nights and what an experience! From the minute we arrived we were pampered and looked after in true Japanese style. The food was an experience every meal and the helpfull hints how to go "Japanese" brought us closer to understanding the local cuisine and food habits better. Our suite was great and we had problems staying out... More

The first thing everyone will mention about the Gora Kadan is the price. Just put it out of your head. There is no price you can put on a truly memorable experience. You only ever come to a place like this once and nothing will ever replace the memory of sitting outside on a spring evening with a light rain... More

This was one of the best experiences we had in Japan. What an introduction to the gracious Japanese culture. The traditional Japanese meals were outstanding. The kimonos were so comfortable. The bath experience was relaxing. The service was impeccable. We hated to say goodbye. We highly recommend this hotel to all of our friends.

I spent 3 nights in the Gora Kadan Hotel and was surrounded by perfection. Food, service, the room (a suite with an outdoor hot tub) and the communal bath (onsen) were just stunning. The in-room shiatsu treatment is highly recommended as is the reflexology session. Forget value for money as you can not put a price on this experience.

We loved our stay at this traditional inn; taking in the traditional dress, food, and atmosphere gave a lot to our stay in Japan overall. We loved the in room hot tubs and enjoyed the views from the balcony. Dinner each night was an experience not to be forgotten. We had excellent service for the whole of our stay and... More

We stayed here on our first trip to Japan. Spacious room, wonderful food, and attentive service. I have never stayed in a traditional ryokan, but get the impression that this is a good compromise between highly traditional and some other amenities that one might expect in a western style hotel. Expensive, but worth it. Highly recommend. The nearby open air... More

This is a perfect experience in a Ryokan (Japanese inn). We spent 2 nights. The room was spacious and comfortable under the standard of a ryokan. We had our private hot spring bath outside in a beautiful garden. There is also a luxurious and beautiful public bath. The hotel is also beautiful and modern. The place is extremely well run.... For a Japan-newbie this is an incredible, immersive experience in Japan-living. The food is exquisite, the rooms and cleanliness equally. The personal butler, beyond a nice touch, is actually a necessary guide to dressing and eating correctly. Beware that the pricing in the rooms is PER PERSON and can result in quite a nasty shock at bill-paying time, especially as... More

Gora Kadan is a strange place. The communal parts of this ryokan are cold, cavernous and unwelcoming. The cafe looks like an airport lounge (our 13 year old daughter's apt observation!) and the salon has massage chairs in it (airport again). Basically it looks like a weird bunker in the mountainside. By contrast, our "Aoi" suite was beautiful and spacious... More
