Good stay overall. Very nice room with beautiful garden but the serenity is constantly damaged by the noise of the train. Some of the food was excellent (kobe and kagoshima beef, tuna) while there were some misses. Best shiatsu I have ever had. The onsens were small but very good. But for what we paid, I would not say it... More

This Relais and Chateaux property offers discrete but consistently warm and friendly service in a gorgeous setting that marries the best of natural surroundings and sophisticated Japanese design. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed the 24 hour onsen (hot springs) bathing twice a day, it was such a delight. The onsen is divided into male and female sides which... More

This is considered a traditional Japanese luxury resort. We stayed 2 nights with our kids in a quad share with a private hot tub. Pros: A very interesting traditional Japanese experience sleeping on futons and have a 9 course "Kaiseki" dinner. The food was beautiful and the service exemplary at the meal time. Dress up in kimonos and hang out... More

Our first experience staying in a Japanese Inn was up to expectation. Our room was good size, simply furnished and private hot spring was invigorating. We had a 9 course tasting menu. Everything was exquisite and we could see a lot of preparation and care had been taken to serve this meal. The breakfast was just as elaborate. The whole... More

As first time guests of a ryokan with the bath (onsen) facilities, we (a couple) were delighted with the suite, the onsen on it and the beautiful veranda. Had an excellent night sleep there. Experienced what we repute as a great kaiseki dinner with our group of non Japanese guests, and were served a really good, Japanese breakfast in the... More

If only we had more time at the Gora Kadan! After a day of exploration, we arrived tired and ready to relax. We should have skipped the last shrine of the day and headed to Gora Kadan... as you enter you immediately feel relaxed and peaceful. Just what we needed in the middle of a 12 day exploration of Japan.... More

The amazing building, the wonderful main hot springs, the beautiful rooms with private hot springs in the room, the exquisite food, the superb service and care by the staff, the gorgeous view all make it the best experience available in Hakone. Beware- its nearby the train tracks and these can be hear during the day. Also, the food can be... More

I was not a guest in the hotel, visited to experience kaiseki only. Disappointing kaiseki experience! Even the premium set (11000++ vs. basic 5500++) was disappointing and totally didn't worth it. Please do yourself a favor and don't go there for food.

Having experienced the sights of Tokyo and Kyoto at "western style" hotels, we decided to experience a traditional Japanese inn with onsen (hot baths) for our last night. This is a very high-end ryoken, with excellent facilities and personal service. A very special experience we will remember with fond memories as a family for a long time. Expensive, but highly... This is a very high end ryokan and possibly one of the best out there. The location in the mountains is wonderful and easy to get to from Tokyo. The service is fantastic and the rooms are great. It doesn't get any more traditional and Japanese. The kids loved it, everyone had a fantastic time to wear kimonos and sleep... More
