For many first comers to Japan or to a Ryokan, Gora Kadan will be an amazing experience. But the more you immerse into the Japanese culture and live through the "omotenashi no kokoro" -so unique to the Japanese-, you might find Gora Kadan a bit too cold, a bit to unjapanese, a bit too commercial and impersonal, a bit to... Stayed here for one night in February and wished we had booked for two nights. Traditional Japanese room with outdoor hot spring pool. Great service from our room attendant and lovely dinner and breakfast served in the room. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Expensive but worth the cost for the experience.

Rooms are fabulous, very spacious, with balcony and wooden circle bathtubs. And true Japanese! Rooms with tatami floors and special jap doors and walls. Kimono dresses for each and every one. They also have internal swimming pool and jacuzzi outdoor. Three relaxing sofas with massages. We only stayed one night (is quite expensive) unfortunately coincident with a typhoon that overpassed... I am a guest right now of the hotel and its a terrible experience. Bad communication , horrible food (Kaiseki) , no care with guest , doesn't worth the price At all. So difficult to set a treatment or massage , not enough rooms or professionals. Very disappointed!!

They got 3 stars because a place like this should pay the attention to details and listen to their customers which in our case they did not. The location is beautiful and the suite we were in was comfortable and a bit too warm. The setting and baths is great, but all that can be had at manny other places.... More

Family holiday with two toddlers to a country more than 7 hours by flight away is truly a luxury. Therefore we decided to splurge on hotels given how far (and how much effort involved) we have travelled and how short our stay was. We are glad we chose Gora Kadan as it was a truly unique, authentic, extravagant and memorable... More

I wrote a review of Gora Kadan, a few years ago and felt then that this was one of the best hotels in Japan after more than 10 years of traveling to Japan. Well, we have just stayed at Gora Kadan again, our fourth visit in the last few years. It is not only great but even better and I... More

This was our first onsen experience and Gora Kadan did not disappoint. They helped arrange a pick up from our train which was easy and convenient on arrival. Our room attendant was wonderful. She was so kind and it felt like she was always there to help without feeling overwhelming. We also had massages in the spa the following morning... More

my wife and I stayed for one night, but it just wasn't long enough! The evening meal was served in our room,Japanese style and was a veritable feast. I especially recommend the onsen which we booked privately and there was no extra charge. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who wishes to savour the Japanese culture.
