• We made it to our resting place for the night: Gora Hanaougi. This would be our first and best Ryokan experience. We were greeted with Machi and other drinks and shown to our rooms. The room itself was incredible with a large King bed and a tatami mat area where the kids slept. Also a couch and tv area... More

A beautiful ryokan set in the mountains. The room was very modern, with an outdoor private hot bath on the balcony (SO NICE). We asked for a western bed, which was very comfortable. The service was superb, the bellman drove us from the train station, and even shuttled us to the Open Air Museum (highly recommend also). The food was... More

Stay in Gora hanaougi for two nights, what a nice Japan experience !! The people of Japan are friendly but here in Gora hanaougi are they very friendly. The 12 course meals where so good, onsen big enough, private onsen great, wifi good, shuttle service perfect... Every yen more than worth.. GO FOR THIS ONE !

We didn't know what to expect for our first ryokan stay and were a little nervous, especially as we ascended into the mountains on the Hakone Tozan Railway (a totally fine rail system but at the other end of the speed spectrum from the shinkansen). After the 2 trains and cable car up the mountain, and elevator down to the... More

It more then met our expectations. The staff was amazing and friendly even though they don't speak much english. They welcome you and the fun began. They took us to the room, after we removed our shoes and told us to put on the robes in the hotel. No western dress allowed. The large room was private and very quiet.... More

This is an amazing experience from start to finish. The outlook, private onsen on the balcony, public onsen, multi course traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast and traditional garb you can wear if you choose. Keep an open mind with the food, some of which is unusual but all of it worth trying, as it is a big part of the... More

Beautiful Japanese ryokan in Hakone, we stayed in a room with private onsen and view over the mountain. The hotel ground and room have nothing to fault, the bed is really comfortable and the dinner & breakfast were amazingly delicious. We spent only 1 night there but I wished that we had stayed longer.

Our first ryokan experience and an unforgettable one: perfect room with private onsen on the balcony, comfortable futon beds and amazing dinner .. Obviously not the place to go if you are looking for a western experience, but then why would anyone look for a western experience in a ryokan? This is a place I'd love to see in different... More

This is a lovely property with very helpful and delightful staff who make you feel extremely welcome. It's a wonderful experience to stay here and very cool to put your Yukata on and look out from your room at the mountains .This would be a five star review but myself and my wife found the dinner and breakfast hard going.... This is a beautiful property and quite an experience. We had a semi-suite, which is the largest hotel room I have ever seen in my life. I can’t but wonder what a “full suite” looks like! Dinner was a 13 course meal, but we could only make it through 10 of them. Breakfast itself was 10 courses! The private open... More
