My wife and I spent 2 nights here celebrating our anniversary in June. From the time you pull in ti the drive until you leave, the service is absolutely superb. Every room has a private hot spring bath and there are the traditional men's and women's baths open to all. The rooms are very comfortable and have great views of... More

Great ryokan - main advantage is private open air (opens to balcony) onsen in the room. Once you step in like being in another world . They whisk your shoes away as soon as you take them off and you walk on the tatami covered floors to your room. When you get to your room they already have water heated... More

This hotel is expensive, but wonderful. The rooms are beautiful and excellent, the service is very good, the food is delightful. There were a number of non-Japanese staying here and the staff speak English.

Our five point review: 1. Probably our best sleep in months, quiet, a bit more remote, comfortably spacious and quite romantic, resting at this ryokan on the tatami mats was some of the best rest we've gotten in a long time 2. Hot springs was very nice, we were there during the weekday and it was not crowded at all.... More

Pros: Fabulous experience in this ryokan. Great to feel that was got a traditional b&b although we loved the one non traditional component of the modern comfy bed. The service was phenomenal!! The food was top notch. We loved the private hot spring in our room. Slight con: There is nothing going on in the immediate area so expect to... More

To be honest I am very disappointed. I specially chose Gora Hanaougi for their raving reviews, rooms, location, service, hot springs etc, and I am more than willing to pay a premium price for all these. But one of the highlights of staying at a japanese onsen ryokan besides experiencing the hot springs, is their food. As mentioned, they do... More

Stayed here for one night on December 23, 2013 and it was an amazing experience. I proposed to my fiance here and we enjoyed every moment of staying here. Travel from Tokyo took about 2.5 hours, mainly since the train going up the mountain is pretty slow. The hotel is easy enough to find once you get out of the... More

My friends, my husband, our then 7-month old son and I stayed here in April 2012 - we had the most relaxing, amazing stay and wished we would have stayed longer than just 2 nights! We took the train from Tokyo Shinjuku station and after we got off at Gora station, a very friendly young man from Gora Hanaougi met... More

Everything was up to standard. There was a very detailed explaination on how to use this and that by the staff but I think for someone who cannot understand Japanese, it would be a little troublesome. Dinner was great, breakfast was just standard. Staff service is good while they're there but during the after hours, don't expect the man at... More

BEST lodging experience I've ever had. I've travelled the world... and nothing compares to how relaxed one feels while staying at Gora Hanaogi.
