Hakone is known for it onsens, and there are many scattered around the area. But if you're in for a splurge, a little luxury and detailed attention to care, then this is the place for you! The hotel is conveniently on the tour route (1 - 3 day Hakone tour pass, Odakyu railways). From Hakone -Yumoto station, hop on the... More

My wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon, and I think it’s safe to say it was probably our favourite part. It’s relaxing, calm, quiet. If you’re lucky you almost won’t see another person all day if you didn’t want to, other than your wonderful host. The private onsen are wonderful – we had a wonderfully serene... More

The ambiance of this place is very elegant and traditional, although the inn itself is not that old. The rooms and the service are top-notch, if a bit rigid by Western standards, and the public baths are gorgeous. The Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were high quality, and wonderfully presented, but not as great as we have had at top restaurants.... More

If you're looking for a romantic mountain onsen getaway near Tokyo, this is it. We stayed one night (Christmas Night) at Gora Hanaougi and wished we could have extended our stay for at least two more nights. Located in Gora, it took us about two hours to get there from Tokyo, with the majority of the trip on the small... More

It was my honeymoon trip with my wife to Japan. This was my second Hakone trip. I booked this hotel because it has the private onsen(hot spring) in every room. The price is not cheap, but all the services, the foods in the hotel are worth every penny you paid. Trust me, the staff made me feel like I am... More

This was the second ryokan we stayed in during our trip. The food was not as good (although still very tasty) but our room - and outdoor bath - was of a good standard. I did enjoy the stay here but the service felt overly fussy (I know probably typical for Japan but it was quite 'in your face'). Plus... More

Very excited about the prospect of staying at a top level ryokan we booked three nights in their second floor suite room, inclusive of the A5 Hida Beef Kaiseki plan. The ryokan is beautifully located, in a handsome 1960s compound. The welcome was friendly, courteous and well rehearsed. After taking off our shoes we were led to their lounge, served... More

Our first experience in a ryokan (for 2 days) was amazing: relaxed, peaceful, and inspiring. Hospitality was top, and the attention to detail revealing. The rooms were simple yet fully equipped; the private onsen a blessing. Restaurant service was a testament to the splendour of Japanese kaiseki cuisine. The Hakone area is a gem with magnificent sites and musea (provided... More

An amazing inn in Touzan for an immersion into Japanese culture. We loved the very calm atmosphere, our room, the onsen, the food. Great rooms and great food. For our western taste, the Japanese style breakfast might not be for everybody's taste. The two diners we had in Hanougi were simply amazing, a pleasure. An unique experience, highly recommended!

Brought my parents to Japan for their wedding anniversary, and as it is the first time my dad visit Japan, I chose Gora Hanaougi for him to experience authentic Japanese stay and cuisine. Everything is perfect, from the welcome treat, to introducing us to the ryokan, how to wear yukata, and dining. I really like their extra attention for foreigners... More
