Gora Hanaougi is a very traditional onsen lodge (Ryokan) which provides extremely comfortable room (some with in-room open air onsen) and excellent food. Service is wonderfully good. The location is very convenient - located just a few steps away from the tram/cable car station. It is about 10 mins away from Gora (a town with more restaurants and the Gora... More

We had the pleasure of a 2 night stay here to start our honeymoon. The location is slightly isolated away from the main towns which for us, was a good thing. This meant a peaceful setting for us to relax and unwind. We had booked a package with breakfast and dinner provided in the tatami dining room, and were lucky... More

Peaceful atmosphere , loved the hot bath on the balcony of our room, outstanding service, especially the young lady who looked after us, wonderful massage at the spa. Great location to attractions. The food was excellent quality. However, you need to keep an open mind as it is very different from western food. We did order a western breakfast and... More

Arrived in the pouring rain to an extremely warm welcome. Shown to our room which was lovely with its own balcony area overlooking the woods. Our own onsen bath was on the balcony area with a shower area between the two (It's de rigeur to take a shower before an onsen). No time was lost in getting in the onsen... More

I honestly cannot praise this ryokan high enough, it was a perfect stay. As soon as we arrived we were escorted inside and into the waiting area where we were served tea and Japanese sweets as they checked us in. The atmosphere of this ryokan is magical, the smell of the wood and the ambiance is unforgettable. You cannot help... More

This Hotel is very nice and has the real friendly japanese style. Perfect rooms with an own hot spring pool and nice view to the valleys and mountains. The sleeping quality on the futons on the floor is perfect. Absolutely perfect is also the dinner with about 10 courses and variations of all japanese food.

Having left tokyo in the morning on the bullet train, then a toy train for 1 stop then a mountain train(2nd longest in the world) then a cable car, a short walk and down an elevator in a car park and we arrived to pure calmness, such a wonderful space where the service is exceptional and no detail is forgotten,... My wife and I spent 2 nights here celebrating our anniversary in June. From the time you pull in ti the drive until you leave, the service is absolutely superb. Every room has a private hot spring bath and there are the traditional men's and women's baths open to all. The rooms are very comfortable and have great views of... More

Great ryokan - main advantage is private open air (opens to balcony) onsen in the room. Once you step in like being in another world . They whisk your shoes away as soon as you take them off and you walk on the tatami covered floors to your room. When you get to your room they already have water heated... More
