Gora is a great location for getting around the Hakone region by public transport and Gora Tensui is in easy walking distance from the Gora station which made it an easy place to reach from Tokyo. Our modern Japanese room, with tatami mats and futons was clean, comfortable and spacious, with an adjoining sitting area with good views (over a... More

Stayed in this hotel for (unfortunately) 1 night just last night & I was blown away. I expected a cute little ryokan in Hakone, a place to experience the Japanese culture and do something different for a night; wow did I seriously underestimate this place! I could have stayed there for a week! From the moment you arrive they take... More

This was my first ryokan visit but if they're all like this, I'm looking forward to my next visit! The staff are very friendly, I loved the traditional room with the futon beds (I slept like a log), as well as the traditional clothes, the dinner and breakfast were both very good with lots of different courses to try as... I start off by saying that I have mixed feelings about this ryokan. Firstly, the ryokan is situated towards the right side of Gora station and inevitably, you will pass by a public restroom. The ryokan is situated on a quiet street, but by no means secluded. The view from our room overlooking a deserted area and some residential properties... More

We booked Tensui at short notice when we decided to go to Hakone for a night from Tokyo. We're very pleased we did so as we got a Japanese style room and enjoyed the experience. We had some trouble finding it, even though we went the right way off the train, under the underpass and up the road - there... More

Have to agree with reviewer Rogue-Wave-Traveler's comments. We had a long journey from Hiroshima to Gora but it was well worth it. The welcome was fantastic but stupidly we dashed out to take an afternoon cable-car ride up to the sulphur springs when we really should have just stayed close and enjoyed what the Ryokan and village had to offer!... Getting to the hotel is truly part of the fun. There are lots of ways but I chose to take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Odawara (35 mins), transferred to the Hakone-Tozan train (around a 15 minute walk platform to platform in Odawara.) From Odawara to Hakone-Yumato takes around 15 minutes with a quick one-minute walk to transfer one... More

We stayed 2 nights at the Gora Tensui. Our travel agent's preferred ryokan was not available, so we paid an extra £200 to stay here. The ryokan is lovely, the staff are (sometimes overly) attentive and the food was fabulous in presentation and taste. The downstairs onsen was the best we used during our stay, but nothing was so exceptional... More

My first experience of a Japanese Ryokan was memorable thanks to helpful staff, stunning views and exceptional food. I arrived with Japanese friends, and some trepidation, at Gora Tensui late afternoon and found a warm welcome and amazing view of the forest-covered mountains. We were shown to our shared room where the whole "onsen thing" was explained. First the footstool... More

We were met by the Maitre D' outside the hotel; we were expected. We recieved very personalised attention throughout even to the point of making sure we enjoyed the food. The room was gorgeous with an outside hot tub. The public sulphur bath was very good too. The kaisekai food presentation was amazing as was the western breakfast we requseted... More
