Stayed at Kowakien on our last day of our Tokyo trip. We were initially skeptical of what we see as the exterior looks pretty run down. However, we were upgraded to a suite that was totally different from what we expected! Place was clean, big, bed was comfy, wifi is strong, and everything we needed for onsen is provided for.... This hotel must have top notch once. Now it looks outdated and needs serious refurbishing (bathroom). Hotel food and refreshments are overpriced. No worries supermarkt right next to the hotel! The garden and onsen, however, are well maintained and clean. Staff is helpfull and friendly. Fast WiFi in the room and lobby. Location is perfect for a Hakone round tour!... More

The hotel is old but very comfortable. My first visit to Japan and my first experience with the outdoor public bath is very nice. Nice dining experience in the hotel and nice stay. Our group had dinner in yukata and served the rich traditional Japanese menu. Hot water onsen is just nice in the cool fresh weather.

I selected this hotel because I wanted to take my 6 yr old boy to the Yunessun park for the outdoor water slides. It's a 3 minutes walk away across the street, but the Kowakien hotel is the closest one. We rented a car and drove there, else, we might have to take some local bus. It's not close to... More

stayed here after our search for Mount Fuji and lo and behold we saw it from our window. We were with a group and today was Mount Fuji but the we did not see it from the Mount Fuji centre. We felt honoured to see it in the afternoon. Nice and well positioned but it does have smoking rooms I... More

We booked a family of four an one-night package for the hotel which including a decent tepanyaki dinner. The hotel room we stayed at the Garden-view wing 7FL was with a very pretty view especially if there's cherry blossom because the windows are just next to the branches of an huge old cherry tree! Room (I guess it's a deluxe)... More

I believe this is a very old hotel, and it does show in areas of the hotel. The decor is dated but our room was large and clean. The hotel sits on a narrow winding road and if like us you intend to use the local buses to get around, be aware these get very crowded; take a ticket on... More

On arrival, the second floor does not have a lift. Fine if you do not have heavy suitcases. There is also a number of stairs to the lobby. The rooms are large by Japanese standard, but quite dated. The Bath room could also do with a refurb.. No coffee available for free. 410 yen for one filter coffee ! There... More

Hotel is situated in a very ideal locale which is near to Gora and the lake . Room which we had was very spacious. Onsen within the hotel is good and very clean. Convenience family mart and the Yunessun waterpark just across the road, which add more amenities for the stays. Taxi charges from the station Kowakidani cost 730 yen... More
