My mom and I traveled here as part of a Sunrise tour and found the one night stay at this hotel worth the price of the otherwise disappointing tour. The room, while a bit older, is twice as large as the room we stayed at in Tokyo, and was clean and incredibly comfortable. Our room overlooked what was essentially forest,... more

We were booked this room as a part of a tour package. Our first hotel on this trip was dumpy so we were worried but we were actually pleasantly surprised. It is in a very convenient location - across the st reet from Yunessen water park where you can bathe in wine, beer and other fun stuff. The hotel itself... more

The rooms are in need of updating, and the hotel itself smelled of cigarette smoke at times. The bathroom is small. The internet access was poor. The public bath is a great amenity; I recommend trying it during your stay. There is a nice Japanese garden on the hotel grounds. The breakfast buffet was good, and it included many Western... more

I went to this hotel in October 2008 as part of a group tour. The hotel has a monopoly on tours visiting the Mt Fuji area and on the day we arrived, five other coach parties arrived. To be fair, coach parties have their own check-in arrangements so individual travllers should not have any problems with delays when they arrive... more

We stayed here as part of a small group tour (10 people) en route from Tokyo to see Mt Fuji and the area. The hotel is quite large and has a very pleasant garden area. Staff are helpful and we had a large room with a large TV, a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The en-suite had bath... more

We stayed at the Kowaki-En for one night, en route from Tokyo to Kyoto and as a base to see the National Park. We thought the hotel was a little bit tatty, but perhaps we were expecting too much having come from the Park in Tokyo. Dinner in the restaruant was disappointing, the buffet was limited, of average quality, but... more

Nestled in the mountains, this hotel was where I stayed for one night, as part of a Sunrise tour (Mt Fuji/Onsen experience). The (twin) bedroom area is larger than other hotels we stayed in and the toilet is seperate to the sink and "bath". The "bath" is the deep, Japanese style one, but looked old and dated, so i ventured... more

We came from the Hilton Tokyo (3 nights) which was a very good stay. We only needed one night in Haknone until we could proceed to Kyoto where we stayed at the Westin (excellent hotel if you stay in Kyoto for visitors from the States!). First the good. The hotel staff are interested in making your stay nice (as with... more

A large resort hotel that has certainly seen better days, but provides an authentic Japanese onsen ambience. The rooms have seen a heavy amount of traffic, and especially the bathrooms are in need of a renovation (see photo). As you would expect, compared to Tokyo or Kyoto, a very small amount of english is spoken here. Front desk service is... more

This hotel was quite an experiece for me, in the nicest possible way. The front of house staff were fine, no problems there. The doors to the bedrooms are very strange, they seemed to be metal or something similar, but once inside things were fine. I went to check out the public bath, which was a bit daunting, but other... more
