Travlled to Japan back in February with my father and my son. Stayed two nights at Hotel Kowakien. Easy access to the hotel. There are bus stops right infront of the hotel. Nice buffets for dinner and breakfast (included). Friendly staff with very efficient English skills. It's nice to just relax, enjoy the nice onsen, followed by a nice meal.... More

Old hotel but providing a low stress and relaxing environment in the attractive Hakone mountainous area. The main attraction is a traditional Japanese hot spring bathing which we decided to give a miss as bathing costumes are not required for traditional Japanese bathing! There are not many shops in the area so dining at the hotel is the best. There... More

What a mission to get to this hotel. First JR line from Tokyo to Odawara, then Akone/Tozan line to Kowakidani station where you get a bus to the hotel. Very nice trip which we enjoyed. Great location with transport on the doorstep. Check-in was a breeze by very friendly and helpful staff. Clean fair size room with fridge and queen... More

Kowakien Hotel has five storeys and its own bath area and dining outlets. After staying for two nights my impression was that it is meant more for the masses or those with either large families or people who wanted to cut costs by going on the cheap. My room had three beds, for example, and was located on the 1st... More

This hotel needs a through refreshing to bring it up to the standard for which it charges! The location is excellent and that is mainly what you get for your money. The local bus stops just in front the hotel. Our first room was called a double and it was at a corner where the corridor makes a big turn.... More

I spent summer and winter vacations here in my childhood. There were many foreigners staying here, so I had to learn and follow Western rules. That was half century ago, but they are still serving a quality relaxing atmosphere to their guests. The properties are a bit tired, so they started renovations. When my family visited there, we were fortunately... More

This Hotel is a perfect place for relaxation and have some fresh air. Hotel garden is well decorated and beautiful, good view too, I like it very much. The Yunessun Onsen Theme Park is a Hot spring, just walk across the road, I am sure you would like it. Good place.

We booked a package that included this hotel in japanican.com so we only stayed overnight. We arrived here on a rainy day, and were tired because we had to walk (hike) to reach this hotel under the drizzling rain from Kowakidani station. When we got checked in our exhaustion melted away. The view from our room was amazing, we saw... More

Our friends booked us a room for two nights at a bargain price as it included the room plus a large breakfast and two day passes for the Yunessen spa over the road. The hotel is easy to get to-we got off the Shinkansen at Odawara then straight onto a bus which stopped at the hotel entrance. It's located in... More

The area around the hotel is beautiful, the rooms were a good size and the hotel onsen is lovely and relaxing. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, even though some of them spoke little English. However this is an overpriced hotel, both to stay there and to eat, considering how dated the decor is, almost a little bit... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Several years ago I was in Japan for 7 days. Stayed in 3 different 6 star hotels, but Hotel Kowaki-en, Hakone National Park, impressed me so much as it was simply out of this world, with incredible service, hyper-luxurious rooms with elegant bathroom. Simply so fairytale like that anyone ever stayed there will remeber it forever. It's like Paradise. Have the correct address in Denmark, where I'll arrive in 10 days. ... more   less
