We used public transportation during our trip to Japan and were a little bit confused how to reach the hotel since arriving instruction were not so clear We wanted to take a taxi to the property but at the train station there was no taxi so we asked people and found out that there is a bus stop just at... Hotel is in an excellent location - right across the street from Yunessen and a 15-20 minute walk to the Cablecar/Ropeway system. The hotel itself benefits from the location - excellent mountain views and the hotel itself is right on a garden. The public bath / onsen contained an outdoor portion, as well, which seemed to be a genuine onsen.... More

I stayed in a western style room one weekend in October as part of a package tour, so the price was much lower than if one booked it separately. The room was very spacious with separate rooms each for the bath, toilet and sink (something I have never seen in Japan). it had a big picture window that overlooked a... More

We stayed in this hotel 6-8 October 2014,the hotel needs a total refurbishment they still use a key with a dodgy lock the rooms are very small and bathroom/toilet are what you have on a ship, unfortunately some of our items went missing after sending two email asking if they had found them as to date they have not replied.

Travlled to Japan back in February with my father and my son. Stayed two nights at Hotel Kowakien. Easy access to the hotel. There are bus stops right infront of the hotel. Nice buffets for dinner and breakfast (included). Friendly staff with very efficient English skills. It's nice to just relax, enjoy the nice onsen, followed by a nice meal.... More

Old hotel but providing a low stress and relaxing environment in the attractive Hakone mountainous area. The main attraction is a traditional Japanese hot spring bathing which we decided to give a miss as bathing costumes are not required for traditional Japanese bathing! There are not many shops in the area so dining at the hotel is the best. There... More

What a mission to get to this hotel. First JR line from Tokyo to Odawara, then Akone/Tozan line to Kowakidani station where you get a bus to the hotel. Very nice trip which we enjoyed. Great location with transport on the doorstep. Check-in was a breeze by very friendly and helpful staff. Clean fair size room with fridge and queen... More

Kowakien Hotel has five storeys and its own bath area and dining outlets. After staying for two nights my impression was that it is meant more for the masses or those with either large families or people who wanted to cut costs by going on the cheap. My room had three beds, for example, and was located on the 1st... More

This hotel needs a through refreshing to bring it up to the standard for which it charges! The location is excellent and that is mainly what you get for your money. The local bus stops just in front the hotel. Our first room was called a double and it was at a corner where the corridor makes a big turn.... More

I spent summer and winter vacations here in my childhood. There were many foreigners staying here, so I had to learn and follow Western rules. That was half century ago, but they are still serving a quality relaxing atmosphere to their guests. The properties are a bit tired, so they started renovations. When my family visited there, we were fortunately... More
