Our family of 4 spent one night here in a room with a private open air onsen. Everything was top-notch. The staff did not speak very much English but they were very helpful regardless and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. Our two kids loved everything. The food was amazing - even if I wasn't sure of what I... More

We stayed just one night on our 10 day trip to Japan. It was our first visit to a ryokan but staff made us feel very welcome and explained how to do things, so the experience was comfortable and relaxing (special mention to Tanaka for taking such good care of us). We loved the whole thing - hot baths, private... More

The Pros: Location - one of the most convenient ryokan in Gora area. Just within a minute walk from the cablecar station (however, travelling from Odawara to Gora takes about an hour). Dinner/Breakfast - Awesome, the spread was fantastic and it is a good place to try tradition Japanese breakfast. Warning: do not expect your usual International buffet breakfast. Room... More

It was our first time at an Onsen ryokan. And I'm glad we decided to splurge a little here. It was a most welcome break during our trip. I felt relaxed the moment I stepped in. The staff were most attentive. We got to relax in the provided Japanese robes, which were super comfy and warm, and Japanese socks and... More

Our family of 4 just return from Japan. We spend one night at hakone and stay at Gora sounkaku. This is the second time we stay at hakone but first time at Gora sounkaku. Sounkaku is not the most expensive ryokan in Hakone but a reasonable one. Many people has talk about the price but Everthing in Japan is expensive... More

We spent one night here on our trip to Japan in April 2013. Definitely the highlight of our 10 day trip. The whole experience was just wonderful. The hot spring baths, the Japanese room, futons, yakutas (cotton robes), Japanese dinner and breakfast (even though I'm not that fond of Japanese food) was a sensory delight! English-speaking staff limited - we... More

The gora hanaougi sounkaku is up the road from the gora hanaougi--be careful, because our driver got confused and brought us to the wrong one first! Our stay was incredible, the obsess were insanely relaxing, the Japanese style room was lovely, and the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were very fun and delicious! You'll eat some interesting things, that's for sure.... More

This ryokan is amazing! We enjoyed every minute of our stay. It is located right outside of the station, which also happened to be the same station for the ropeway cable car to Owakudani. We took the opportunity to make a visit immediately after checking in. As soon as we entered the ryokan, we were greeted with a delightful welcome... More

Resort location is nearby the train's station, just 100m walk from it. Not a big hotel with only 3 level. When you get inside, you can feel how good service they provided, a very nice japanese lobby, take off your shoes and starting your reservation with a hot tea. The day we arrived is rainy, hotel is very attentive to... More

My Japanese friend took me to Sounkaku in the Hakone area for a night and it was really a treat. Located beautifully high up on the hills at the end of the cable car, this traditional Japanese Onsen hotel is really luxurious and comfortable. We were warmy greeted with a cup of Matcha tea in the lobby and then lead... More
