It was an amazing experience with Yamanochaya. This is a small ryokan with english speaking, attentive staff. The ryokan is tucked away off the main road and the bridge leading to the hotel feels was an lovely experience. We felt welcomed on arrival and the staff was helpful in directions around Hakone area. We had a small private bath in... More

We stayed for one wonderful night at Yamanochaya in the Tsukimidai room A (see website for different room amenities). The service was without flaw - you're actually assigned your own butler of sorts when you arrive, so you'll have the same person attending to you (and only you) the entire time. The baths were relaxing, clean, well built. I presume... More

We stayed at Yamanochaya over night with our two year old son. Staff helped carrying our heavy suitcases all the way and those who speak English greeted us. We enjoyed several outdoor and indoor hot springs, and because women and men switch time for their usage of pools, everyone can experience all the pools in an overnight stay. Outdoor pools... More

We stayed for 2 nights on our first trip to Japan - was worried that one night wouldn't be enough to get the full ryokan/onsen experience and it turned out to be the right decision. I can't say enough good things about this place. From the moment you arrive, you feel welcomed and special. After removing our shoes, they whisked... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Yamanochaya. It was just what we needed after two weeks of hectic travel around Japan. We stayed for two days towards the end of our honeymoon and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Breakfasts and dinners were wonderful, with very detailed menus explaining exactly what was in front of us. They... More

We stayed here in order to take a break in between Tokyo and Kyoto. As it was a long planned holiday we decided to splash out and get a room with a private bath, the room we booked was called the Tukimidai room/Nadeshiko , The room itself was excellent and whilst it cost much more than we have ever before... Yama no chaya is a gem of a ryokan. The location is pleasant, not too remote and not too prone to tourists floods. There is a good 15mins by foot from the Tonosawa train station to reach the hotel, but the stroll is pleasant. Hakone bus stop is next to the bridge leading to the ryokan. Yama no Chaya is... More

My first ryokan experience, and what a wonderful one it was! My only regret was not arriving earlier! I decided to do the Hakone loop immediately after arriving at Hakone yumoto station, as I arrived in the morning and decided it would be too much trouble trying to look for the ryokan and not being able to check in till... Booked room with private bath, arrival party with the shuttle bus was immediately met by hosts. Room assignment was polite and host was extremely professional. Room was amazing, the food was exquisite. We also ordered an extra sashimi set which proved to be too much. The private bath as well as shared baths were clean, water temperature was amazing. Next... Set just a little out of town. A very friendly welcome and a cup of tea in a very attractive bar area. The room was divided over two levels and was lovely, with a stone spa bath to enjoy soaking and looking at the opposite mountain. The staff were very friendly and unlike our first Ryokan experience there was a... More
