We decided to splurge on this Ryokan, and loved it. Very interesting experience. A few things we decided: - it's important to be on time, or early. We felt it was a bit rushed for us to get settled. Through random course of events during the day, we arrived 15 minutes before the 5pm cut off. It was enough time,... More

One of the highlights of our trip. Yes, the rooms are a little dated but this really doesn't detract from the experience of staying in a traditional in. We were in one of the outer rooms, with our own hallway and indoor onsen. The food was amazing- ten courses for dinner and eight for breakfast. Having your own personal room... More

Stayed here for 1 night. Came from Osaka so all up it took us around 3-4 hours to get here. We arrived 7pm at night, by the time we checked in and all it was around 8pm. Rooms were huge and very spacious. It was very clean, as you would expect in a Japanese Ryokan. We were served a delicious... More

I went there with 8 membsers of my family at the end of December, 2013. It's real old Japanese house with annexes. As it was not built for the inn, but for the second house for the family of Japanese old financial group, you can experience the atmosphere of traditional way of living in the olden time. One thing I... More

A wonderful ryokan. Great food and exceptional service. If you want to get away from it all, this is a place to come to. The service is truly exceptional. And I emphasise this again. You will be hard pressed to find a better set of staff, professional and engaging. The premises are dated, but clean and functional. Be reminded that... More

My first experience stay in Ryokan! I love it and will come back again for sure. The ryokan is beautiful and zen!!! very traditional building with tatami floor and doors are sliding doors. We enjoyed the private onsen as well as the lovely outdoor onsen with autumn scenery. Dinner were 9 courses of kaiseki style served by kimono-clad attendant, the... More

Summary: first-rate hospitality, abundant in-room meals, service, and grounds in beautiful old, authentic lodgings with small but nice outdoor onsen. Japan for real! Details: two nights' stay with grown-up daughter en route between Tokyo and Kyoto in late October 2013. Service and hospitality were first-rate all the way, from the first moment of welcome and spontaneous bows to a smile-filled... More

We stayed in this Ryokan one night in the middle of April 2013 on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto. The place is relatively easy to find, though we did change trains three times. If you have JR pass, then it is not a problem. Check in time is at 2.00 pm, but I would recommend getting early and leaving... More

We stayed at Gora Kansuiro for 2nights in mid-April. Weather was 18C-22C, sunny and warm but a little windy. Location: Perfect, easy to find. The "romance car" train from Shinjuku (main station in Tokyo) direct to Hakone-Yumato, change (walk across platform) then get the mountain train to Gora station which is the end of the line, walk back on yourself... Traditional ryokan, located 3 minutes to GORA train station. Large room, bathroom with thermal hot water. Fine and copious traditional dinner served in the room. Do not confuse with another Kansuiro located at Hakone Yumoto.
