Okayama appears to be stepping up its game lately. The river walk just got new pavers, and Hotel Maira now has free WiFi!!! Like the travelers from England and France said, Hotel Maira provides decent accommodations, extremely friendly and helpful staff. And after a long day of travel and understanding very little of what anyone around me is saying, I... More

This would be a fairly standard business hotel if it weren't for the staff who were just great, everyone was so helpful and welcoming. The room decor is a little dated but everything was well kept and very clean. Wifi was available in the room as well as the lobby. Free ice creams (!), soft drinks and coffee available at... More

This is a standard business hotel, I stayed there one night for only 4200 JPY. It was a great value for price. As mentioned by others, the staff is lovely and very helpful. The hotel is well located, the room size is quite average for the price but the bathtub is smaller than European/US ones. The hotel decor is a... More

Yes, it's a business hotel but nonetheless it was perfect for my requirements. The people on reception were unfailingly helpful and enthusiastic - most Japanese are but even by Japanese standards they were fabulous. The room was not the smallest I've stayed in but I'm only 5'2" so there's never a problem for me. Loved the little freebies and the... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and we really enjoyed it. The hotel is close to the center and practical. Coffee, tea and even cakes for breakfast are free. most surprising: It was the cheapest hotel on our honeymoon trip but the hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming with us. We felt very welcome! We recommend this hotel to... More

Friendly, happy, helpful staff. Free hot and cold drinks machines, efficiant coin washers, great location, free wifi and comfortable (slightly 80's) rooms. We had a brilliant stay and would pick this hotel if in the area again.

The hotel was located within a 10-minute walk from all of the places we wanted to see (the castle, gardens, some shopping, and the train station). There were a number of good restaurants nearby. The rooms weren't luxurious, but they were very comfortable for us. Decent bed, TV, bathtub/shower, internet, hot water, robes, etc. The wifi worked well in our... More

Let's be honest, when it comes to the rooms Hotel Maira is just another random business hotel. It's clean, functional and well kept not the newest of it's kind but everything you need for a comfortable stay for a good price. What really makes the place special is the extremely friendly and helpful staff. True, their English might not be... More

I stayed here for work. As previously mentioned the staff is very helpful. English was limited but the guy at the desk didn't let that hinder him from doing everything he could to pull maps, call businesses, and make sure every question I had was answered. Major plus is this place had free wifi! I've been in 5 hotels from... More

The hotel has a few things working against it. The dated decor of the rooms and and overall aesthtics of the hotel are bit poor. However, the staff are wonderfully helpful and have basic English skills, which matched well with my basic Japanese skills. There is one computer in the lobby which is generally free for internet use. A short... More
