It was drizzling when we alighted after our short taxi ride (¥700) from the train station. We were ahead of schedule and hesitated at the entrance of Ryokan Kurashiki, unsure if we were at the right address; one of the staff must have heard us and promptly appeared. He took charge of our bags, loaned us two umbrellas and presented... More

In some guide books, the highest rating for an establishment is "worth a journey". Ryokan Kurashiki is worth a journey. This is not to say that the lovely, historic town of Kurashiki and it's world-class art museum aren't worth visiting too. But in my opinion, this lovely Ryokan would be worth seeking out even without them. The rooms are huge... More

We were on a 3 week vacation of Japan, and stayed here one night on our way from Hiroshima to Osaka. Arriving at the train station, simply go to the lower level and the cabs will be right there. A cab fare to the Ryokan is about $12.00US. You can walk, but I would say it would be at least... More

We only had one night at Ryokan Kurashiki and how I wished we could stay longer! It happened to be a Japanese long weekend when we visited so the Bikan district of Kurashiki was bustling. The ryokan was right in the central area of the canal so there were a lot of commotion, but once we walked inside of the... More

We have travelled to Japan on many occasion but have never stayed at a Ryokan. Following a recommendation from a close friend we decided to spend 3 nights at Ryokan Kurashiki. From the moment we arrived your every need is attended to. The staff all wear traditional dress and are constantly looking after your needs. The fist night we dined... More

We travelled to Kurashiki for two nights during March with high expectations of a special experience. I had researched a little and the cost was substantial so we hoped for the best. What we got left us feeling as though we had made a new friend, Ritsuko, got great value for money and had experienced a destination like nothing we... More

We couldn´t afford to stay the night here, but we decided to splurge on the banquet lunch in a private room. It was very much worth it! First of all, I was able to easily correspond by email with the staff in order to make a reservation (required). When we arrived, our server for the meal was waiting in the... More

All that has been said about this Ryokan is absolutely true. This was my first time in Japan and the first Hotel I stayed at so I was absolutely overwhelmed by this fantastic Inn. It is faultless and I have never been looked after so well. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and we had the banquet served... More

On his 90th birthday, my uncle who could not recall what he had for breakfast, remembered in vivid detail our stay at Ryokan Kurashiki some 25 years ago. I returned with friends this year, and found a beautifully refurbished old merchant's home on the historic canal, with the same level of flawless hospitality, the same lovely garden, and the same...
