The ryokan is a modern japaness and about 20 min taxi drive from the station. I stayed in Tatami Suite with Outdoor Bath. The room were nice and spacious. I think it's more than enough for 4 pp however I went alone. The onsen facilities are very nice and comfortable lots of clean space to relax and open almost 24... More

This hotel is a very nice spot on the quiet city of Matsumoto. We stayed 1 night here while stopping by to see the castle. We had a room with a private onsen to go along with all of their others available to all guests. The tradition ryokan setting of the rooms added to the beautiful aesthetics and experience of... We stayed at Kai Matsumoto for two nights after several days in Tokyo. Kai Matsumoto was a dream after the crazy pace of Tokyo. This modern ryokan is a short taxi ride away from the city in a quiet neighborhood. Our welcome upon arrival was warm, and we were personally escorted to our rooms by one of the English speaking... This ryokan was top notch, friendly and accommodating. The hot baths were great for detoxing from jet lag at 4am! I can't say enough good things about this Kai Matsumoto - pure indulgence! And the food was really beyond yummy.

This ryokan type of resort is so amazing. Just a nice mix of traditional bedding style (with tatami floor and futton) and modern comfortable equipments. I really enjoyed staying here. The hot baths are so calming and relaxing with serene decoration. There are 13 styles of indoor and outdoor hot baths. Since there are not so many rooms, the hot... More

Not really much to see in Matsumoto, except for the castle, but a stay in this hotel has fully compensated that. It has ghe most spectacular onsen (hot bath) we have seen in Japan, and the Japan experince you get is really fantastic, from the tatami room to the kaiseki dinner. We loved it. Only small complaint - would be... More

This ryokoan is run by renowned Hoshino resorts and you would get exactly what you expect. That said, quality of the service, rooms, foods & facilities are at a very high standard and you'll be satisfied with all they offer. We stayed in a spacious room that has a main Japanese tatami room, sub tatami room, a deck with chairs... More

There really is very little reason leave Kai Matsumoto during your stay but you'll have to because there are things to see in Matsumoto. That being said: The customer service is attentive but not intrusive, friendly but not contrived, and wonderfully amazingly helpful when it came to exploring Matsumoto. The accommodations are very comfortable. The hot spring spa rooms are... More
