My friend invited me to this inn when I visited Matsumoto. When we were naked in the changing room of "Hakuryu", the most spacious indoor open-air bath, a male staff came out of the bathroom and went away, glancing at us(I met his gaze). We were stunned. My friend called the front desk and complained, then a female staff came... More

We spent two nights. The location is beautiful! It takes the shuttle bus approximately 30 minutes from Matsumoto station and during this ride you already see the beautiful landscapes! Arriving at the onsen/hotel is very organized. Everything is taken care of very fast and very friendly. We had a room with private onsen and that was wonderful! The other onsens... More

My husband is typically reticent, and spare with his words during our meals together, especially when he's pre-occupied with things at work. During one of our superb dinners at the Myojinkan, when I expressed how great it would be to experience the Myojinkan in all 4 seasons, he said, "If [our company] makes money hand over fist, I'll be your... We stayed overnight at the Myojinkan en route from Tokyo to Hakuba in December 2014. Given the ease with which reservations and arrangements were made, I must mentioned that I booked this stay through the Luxury Ryokan Collection. They are truly experts in this field. Arriving at Matsumoto by a 2.5 hour direct train from Tokyo's Shinjuku station, we were... More

If you really want to feel you are in Japan, this is the place to stay. It's a charming, elegant and sophisticated ryokan surrounded by the snow (we've been there early Jan. 2015), with four onsen (Japanese bath), wonderful cuisine (also French, but you can have a truly Japanese dinner). Fascinating. It is worth the trip (for us: Tokyo-Nagano-Matsumoto and... More

Having stayed in many dozens of Japanese accommodation types over decades, from rooms in lovably mean fishing village houses to "international" hotels in the capital cities, with many in between, remotely accessed only by foot or touristy with a bus stop outside, with pictures of royalty on the concierge’s desk or just photographs of family discretely in the common areas,... The quintessential ryokan. Three restaurants: oraganizn French, moden Japanese and kaiseki. Multiple baths, including one for men and women during the day. Location in the mountains a 20 minute ride from Matsumoto. Try each of the restaurants: each has specialties. Western and Japanese breakfasts are available. Room was supremely comfortable with in-room jacuzzi. If you can, get the private onsen... More

We had a blissful stay at this wonderful place, and although we arrived jet-lagged and exhausted we left feeling totally rejuvenated. There is no detail unconsidered by the warm and friendly hosts to make the stay as comfortable as possible for guests. From the fresh yukata and scented tabi provided daily, through to twinkling candles and midnight snacks left in... More

If you're going to stay in only one ryokan (traditional inn) in Japan, Myojinkan is the one to go to. It's up in the mountains, a short distance from the downtown area of Matsumoto city. There is beautiful scenery visible out of every window. Throughout the building are lovely original paintings of flowers and other natural scenes by a high-class... More

Easily the best Ryokan of our trip. Superb rooms with excellent facilities - standing onsen infinity pool open to the moon was memorably relaxing. Together with fantastic food - including special menu for our "begetarian" and access to the club lounge - this is worth a detour - but you do not need to! Matsumoto Castle is a must see... More
