The Matsumoto Tokyu Inn is located diagonally across the street from the train station and a very easy walk. It's also footsteps away from a number of very good restaurants. We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in December 2008. The room was tidy, had an amazing view of the alps and was perfect for our holiday. Looks a bit pink from the outside, but very nice interior and lovely helpful staff. Also - you can get a room upgrade for 1500 Yen per person - much cheaper than when you originally book.
