We were so happy with this family-run ryokan. The owners have very little English but we managed to communicate well, and the owner even gave us a lift to the station after we checked out, which was really appreciated. Our room was in the annexe; it was very clean and comfortable, with the best futon I have ever slept on!... More

Not very far from Matsumoto station, but still far enough to not feel to touristy. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The one thing I didn't like was the shower area, it felt unfinished and a bit messy.

This was the largest tatami room we have had in Japan, with windows on 3 sides and lovely views over the local streets, and to the mountains. Location is as stated before - very close to the station, just have a look online at a map and screen shot it/draw a picture to make sure you get straight there! The... More

Matsukaze is 10-15 minutes of walking from the main railway station in a residential area; it's better to bring a good map so that you are able to navigate the streets to the location. We stayed in one of the ryokan's annexes, which seemed to be a large Japanese house remodelled for hotel business. The facilities and cleanliness were top... More

After travelling around Japan by now for several weeks we had began to loose faith in Tatami rooms, many we had stayed in were noisy with poor facilities. Luckily Matsukaze restored our faith Lovely bright tatami room, with comfortable futon. Everywhere was spotless. About 10 minutes walk from the train station in a quiet local area.( no problems walking back... More

Family-run hotel with Japanese style rooms located 15 mins easy walk from JR Matsumoto station. Walking distance to shopping and the Matsumoto Castle. This is the best hotel I stayed in Japan although the price I paid is much less than other hotels. My room is brand new, very big and clean (Please see my pictures). Wifi is fast and... More

The people are very friendly, and although they dont speak much English I had no problems communicating. I had a big room and the heating was sufficient for the cold weather. The only draw back was that I had to use a cable in the reception area for internet connection, but i didnt need it for long so it wasnt... More

Stayed here for 2 nights in August 2013 while travelling around central Japan. Location is a little tricky to find at first but we managed to find it with a rough map on hand. It is about a 15-min walk (with luggage) from JR Matsumoto Station. At night, it was a little too dark to walk back from the station... More

I enjoyed staying - had two nights there. Only Ryokan stayed in so far, so can't compare to others...however, owners were very friendly (limited English) and we felt comfortable. Hot tea was left in our room when we arrived and the following day after we'd been out, which was appreciated. During day the room is in floor-cushion and table format;... More

Found by chance searchin for a triple room in Matsumoto for one night (21st august) we decided to try a Ryokan to experience the true japanese hospitality. Price was ok, and the location is also good: 10 mins walking from city JR - station, 25 mins walking from the most important attracion in the city, Matsumoso Castle (is situated just... More
