Stayed here for just the one night, but would definitely recommend! It’s a short 10 minute walk from Matsumoto Station, so you have plenty of food options and it’s easy to get around. Upon check in we were greeted by an obachan (the owner’s mother) who was so lovely! The room itself was a bit of a maze to find,... More

Most welcoming stay. They don't speak much English but not a problem. We stayed at the annex building, room upstairs via a steep stairs. We arrived around 9pm- room was prepared for us with futons laid on mat. Futons were very comfortable. The owner was kind to sent us to train station early morning.

This was our first experience with a ryokan and it was incredible. The staff was warm and welcoming and very accommodating of our language barrier. Very sweet about showing us around the facilities and trying to make us feel at home. Provided transportation back to the station which was nice too. Only negative was my husband is a large man... We stayed here on June 18, 2015, and thought it was the best accommodation that we have stayed in yet! The family that runs the ryokan was so warm, welcoming, kind, and understanding of our language barrier. The facility was amazing, well kept, and had a combination of beautiful old furnishings and brand new bathroom and air conditioning facilities. Highly... More

It takes 10 minutes walk from the station. Staff can speak English very well. There are two buildings. Our room isn't in the main building so it's quite quiet. It's very clean and a futon is comfy. There's a hot bath as well. You can relax after a long day. I love it!

The price is great for the room we stayed in. Very spacious, clean and bright traditional Japanese room and comfy futon mattress. Tea and hot water was brought to our room immediately as we arrived. The location is 15min walk from the centre of town and the castle, but there's a 7Eleven nearby for ATM/snacks. No bathroom in the room,... More

I was a bit skeptical since the price was so low but Matsukase Ryokan was the best place I stayed on this trip to Japan. The place was spotless, my room was the most spacious of all the accommodations on this trip and very, very clean. Just beautiful. The owner gave me a lift to the train station when I... More

We were so happy with this family-run ryokan. The owners have very little English but we managed to communicate well, and the owner even gave us a lift to the station after we checked out, which was really appreciated. Our room was in the annexe; it was very clean and comfortable, with the best futon I have ever slept on!... More

Not very far from Matsumoto station, but still far enough to not feel to touristy. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The one thing I didn't like was the shower area, it felt unfinished and a bit messy.

This was the largest tatami room we have had in Japan, with windows on 3 sides and lovely views over the local streets, and to the mountains. Location is as stated before - very close to the station, just have a look online at a map and screen shot it/draw a picture to make sure you get straight there! The... More
