We caused a bit of chaos at first because we'd booked a place of the same name in another city by mistake but the Ryokan was gracious. It meant that we had a different room for each of our 2 nights. We stayed here for three nights in Late September. Although the place seemed a little deserted on arrival the helpful staff could not have been more welcoming. The owner is a wonderful chap who bends over backwards to be of assistance (and reminded us of Manuel from Fawlty Towers). The rooms are clean and spacious. We really wanted to experience so remote places in the Japanese Alps and due to road reconstruction this place was certainly it! 1.5 hours from Kamikochi on a bus (including the change) and we arrived into Shirahone Onsen Spa.
