Located right in the heart of the old geisha district, Yogetsu blends the best of an old style ryokan with modern technology (the latter included the top of the line Toto Washlet toilet seat, which opens for you automatically when you enter the water closet!) The host couple was incredibly nice and helpful (the husband took us around the neighborhood... More

We asked our Japanese speaking friend to book this for us as the owners don't speak English. We arrived to kanazawa in the evening, after the last bus, so took a taxi. The owners were very friendly and were able to communicate the important things we needed to know, such as when and where breakfast was, using gestures. There's a... More

We had a charming experience when we stayed at this three room Japanese ryokan in one of the most picturesque areas in Kanazawa, the Higashi-Jyaya district. To make a reservation you may need help from your Japanese speaking friends but its well worth the stay to sleep in this very unique, wooden, historic home. Our bedroom was large and comfortable,... Staying at Yogetsu was wonderful! I stayed there for 3 nights in June, in a beautiful traditional tatami-style room. The whole building glows with a warm lacquered finish; the toilet is of the future! Everything is clean and quiet and calm, and there's a small garden you can contemplate while sipping tea. The breakfast was nice, but nothing to write... More

This is one of our highlights visiting Japan. There are only us staying in June for two nights and the hosts were so lovely. Although no English was spoken there, all basic needs were met. We also had breakfast there- traditional Japanese style. It was a little too small for someone who needs big breakfast but we didn't mind experiencing something... More

I basically agree with the other reviews. This is small gem. It is located in the old "Geisha district" with oldish "tea houses", Higashi-Chaya. However, this is a 30-minute walk to the main business district/downtown. Quite a number of tourist buses come to the street during day-time, but it is very nice towards the evening when the (other) tourists are... More

Yougetsu (民宿 陽月 minshuku yougetsu) has got to be the best place I've stayed at when in Japan. Plonked in the middle of the picturesque Higashi Chaya district, it is the ideal base to soak up old Japan when in Kanazawa. Geisha houses Shima and Kaikarou are on the same street, and restaurants are a literal stone's throw away. Fukushima Sangenten,... More

This is a wonderful family run B&B. I'm not sure what the maximum number of rooms is because in typical Japanese fashion walls are rolled back or closed as needed. When we stayed there were two couple and a singleton. We had two interconnecting rooms on the front with a lovely gallery looking onto the street. The room was so... More

We stayed one night here, and even though there are three rooms in total, we were alone in Yogetsu. The place itself is fantastic, charming, beautiful and peaceful. The house is in the middle of the Eastern Geisha district, a tranquil but picturesque spot that you should not miss during your visit to Kanazawa, a balanced counterpart to the Samurai... More

Located in the heart of the Geisha district, this small minshuku was a delight. The surrounding area was so picturesque that we spent quite a lot of time walking around at night and in the morning, just exploring. The minshuku itself is a great find! The building is reputed to be an old Geisha house, and it was so charming... More
