Yougetsu (民宿 陽月 minshuku yougetsu) has got to be the best place I've stayed at when in Japan. Plonked in the middle of the picturesque Higashi Chaya district, it is the ideal base to soak up old Japan when in Kanazawa. Geisha houses Shima and Kaikarou are on the same street, and restaurants are a literal stone's throw away. Fukushima Sangenten,... More

This is a wonderful family run B&B. I'm not sure what the maximum number of rooms is because in typical Japanese fashion walls are rolled back or closed as needed. When we stayed there were two couple and a singleton. We had two interconnecting rooms on the front with a lovely gallery looking onto the street. The room was so... More

We stayed one night here, and even though there are three rooms in total, we were alone in Yogetsu. The place itself is fantastic, charming, beautiful and peaceful. The house is in the middle of the Eastern Geisha district, a tranquil but picturesque spot that you should not miss during your visit to Kanazawa, a balanced counterpart to the Samurai... More

Located in the heart of the Geisha district, this small minshuku was a delight. The surrounding area was so picturesque that we spent quite a lot of time walking around at night and in the morning, just exploring. The minshuku itself is a great find! The building is reputed to be an old Geisha house, and it was so charming... More

We stayed 2 nigths there. The couple who own this place is very kind and helpful. The minshuku is well located in kanazawa (in the geisha street). The house was just restaured and is very clean, beautiful, and has big rooms. To recommend to everyone !

We found this ryokan through our Lonely Planet guide and arranged our stay at the tourist info desk at Kanazawa Railway Station. The cost was Y4,500 per person (there were 5 of us) and we received two of the three rooms of this small B&B. Breakfast was included (Y500 per person) but very zen-like in its minimalism. The rooms were... More

We stayed in this ryokan earlier in this month. It is an old, restored 'minshuku' (B&B) kind of place, which is said to have belonged to a geisha and is located in Kanazawa's 'pleasure district', a 20 minutes walk from Kanazawa Castle and the Kenroku En gardens. On the inside, the minshuku tastefully combines atmospheric Japanese interior with modern appliances.... More

Staying in a 190-year old traditional, wooden Geisha house is quite an experience. You can feel the history. The house while renovated retains its old charm and creates quite an atmosphere. the inn is very comfortable, clean and perfectly located right in the Higashi Chaya district. The hosts while hardly speaking any English are extremely helpful and friendly, making our... More

Stayed in an upstairs large (nicely furnished room) in this 100+ year old Geisha house that is now a minshuku. There are only a few rooms. The husband and wife owners have done a wonderful job restoring this old house to its former glory. It is in a romantic street of old wooden houses from the last century, near a... More
