This small family run hotel is nestled away from the main streets and is a traditional hotel. This means that the toilets are shared (with the traditional wooden shoes) as are the men's and women's communal baths. The baths have a hot bath (think of a hot tub with no bubbles!) as well as the individual washing stations which you... More

This is a great little ryokan with friendly staff. Depending on your room, you might need crampons to get up the staircase, and our room was indeed small, but very comfortable ...and let's face it; If you're looking for huge rooms and rolling plains, you're in the wrong country. If you're a first timer in Japan, don't forget to read... More

After you like dry fish and miso soup for breakfast you can make next step and tray this traditional Japanese ryokan. There are some specialities Take shoes off (no problem for me) One bathroom for men and one for women for all property (have to get used to) Noise, this because no isolation between the rooms (only for very strong... I think my wife got a little sick of me booking ryokans in Japan (with futon beds), but I liked the fact they often had large rooms that could fit our family of five, and the Murataya Ryokan was no exception (at a good price!) It also had a shared onsen (though we had no-one else in there when we... More

This is a great place if you have a short trip to Kanazawa. Pluses (++): Great location--in walking distance from the main attractions (the castle, 21st century art museum and the garden). Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room Clean toilet and shower areas Negatives (-) The air conditioner units in the room should be cleaned more often.

Murataya ryokan is straight forward to find, in a good location within walking distance of key sights, staff are helpful and their English is good. The hotel is a little 70s which makes it even more charming, the room was nice, the wifi was a bit patchy though, and toilets are shared. They were clean though, and the toilet slipper... More

Every non-Japanese should try a Ryokan such as the Murataya. It is a great experience and very different from a regular hotel which are much the same world over. The shared bathrooms can take getting used to but we're very good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Operating at floor level can also be a challenge for older people.... More

Murataya is a lovely family run ryokan. They are very welcoming and helpful. It is small but the rooms are large. The onsen is also small but very clean and well equipped. Nothing is too much trouble and they will be very happy to help recommend places to eat or places to visit. The location is excellent. It is much... More

We had a very comfortable stay here during golden week 2015. The facilities are very good, especially the new toilets. We enjoyed our room, the (very hot!) onsen and the breakfast (Japanese and western both available). The location couldn't be better, we walked everywhere including to and from the station, the castle, garden, market and chaya districts. There is a... More

We had a pleasant stay in this ryokan. The family that runs the place is very friendly. We had to share the toilet and bathroom but we never had to wait in the morning. The alleyways around the ryokan are full of good restaurants and izakayas.
