Our family visited this inn as a couple and adult child, and the accommodation and location were perfect for our visit to Kanazawa to see the Kenroku-en Gardens, the Castle, and the Old Town. The service was very good, and the room with traditional furnishings was perfect for us. Tea was served at the low table, and our bedding was... More

Kanazawa is one the mistake we made during our holidays in Japan: the garden/park is certainly nice, but that's the only thing whish seems nice in this very touristic city. The ryokan was located in a street with many dodgy bars (which looked like hookers place). The ryokan in itself looks kind of old and rusty, the rooms are smelly... More

Dear Guest, Thank you sincerely for your comment--We are sorry for the late response. We must apologize most deeply for any inconvenience or discomfort during your stay in Kanazawa. Thank you for letting us know. For our part, we have cleaned our AC units. We suppose that you had a bad impression about the pictures in which young girls are... More

A little mom and pop ryokan a block down the street from a lively shopping and restaurant district. A nice little oasis of calm. The rooms are a bit dated and the amenities are spare but the service was friendly (although not quite as friendly as what we encountered elsewhere), the location is nice, and the space is comfortable. We... More

Earlier reviews were helpful in lowering my expectations but, still, this place was on the edge for me. Our ground floor room smelled damp and the whole place was cramped, stuffy, smelly and dilapidated. on the plus side, the location was excellent. It is off a street that is the Harajuku of Kanazawa so our 17 year old son was... More

Murataya’s advertisements lead us to believe that we would find traditional Japanese hospitality there, the sort we found elsewhere in Japan, based on cleanliness and good manners. We did not. It was disappointing from the start: the man who showed us to our room seemed hostile and preoccupied with our luggage (though we only had a cabin bag each), which... More

Dear Guest, Thank you sincerely for your comments, we must apologize most deeply to you for your dissapointment. Now the restroom( include ladies' toilet & gentlemens' toilet) is reconstructing , so we will have a new comfortable restroom in March ,2014. We have managed our inn for about 60 years. Unfotunately our facilities are not the newest ones in fact... More

It was raining, but the room was really small. I stayed at other Ryokans and they had a toilet in the room. This had nothing other than a thermos. The woman who runs it seems very, very nice. The location cannot be better. Easy walking to the castle and garden, shopping and restarurants.

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it a perfect spot for launching our exploration of Kanazawa. Bathrooms are shared, but perfectly clean. The very restricted time for breakfast availability was a shame, but there were decent places very nearby to grab a breakfast if you slept through. The instruction we got on how to use the local shared... More

this is the only ryokan that my mom (65years old) and my sis (37 years old) stays in our trip to japan. the whole experience is very authentic. however, my mom and sis were pretty uneasy about sharing bathroom, and the corridor of basins. Some people do not flush the toilet after they are done with the business, and it's pretty... We really enjoyed our stay at Murataya. It's very "homey" and the owner/manager(?) was extremely helpful. She booked the "ninja temple" tour for us and gave us our favorite Izakaya recommendation - Itaru (wonderful food, very friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere - the jazz club next door to Itaru was a lot of fun as well). Our room was fairly large... More

during our 2 weeks trip around japan, this was the first and only ryokan we stayed at, and we did not regret it at all, it was a very nice experience. the staff was very friendly and helpful, our room was of course quite small but comforable with a nice view to the small garden inside. the location is excellent,...
