We had a pleasant stay in this ryokan. The family that runs the place is very friendly. We had to share the toilet and bathroom but we never had to wait in the morning. The alleyways around the ryokan are full of good restaurants and izakayas.

Very nice cozy ryokan with good service at reasonable price. Speaks English and they serve nice traditional Japanese breakfast. Loop bus stops just 3 minutes away. Plenty of local restaurants nearby too. Look for Unichi San for local restaurant recommendations.

The staff are kind and helpful. The rooms were clean and gorgeous. The Japanese breakfast was delicious and cheap. Bedding was very comfortable. The bath/ onsen/ shower is perfect for foreigners with times scheduled for showers available and the bath open from 3 till 11pm. You can also lock the door if you want privacy. Also the location is amazing.... More

We had a wonderful time at Murataya Ryokan. The hosts were very kind and accommodating, and offered tips and ideas for places to visit in Kanazawa. We had the Japanese breakfast each morning, and found it to be delicious and good value. The location is great, and we enjoyed our time in Kanazawa. It was the surprise hit of our... More

Situated in a quiet street off the Tate-machi shopping promenade in Katamachi. Our room with Japanese furnishings and futon mattresses was comfortable. The room also had a small hanging cupboard, mini safe, TV and telephone. The shared washing facilities and toilets were spotless. The toilets on the first floor looked brand new. Good choice of local eateries and sake bars.... More

Our family visited this inn as a couple and adult child, and the accommodation and location were perfect for our visit to Kanazawa to see the Kenroku-en Gardens, the Castle, and the Old Town. The service was very good, and the room with traditional furnishings was perfect for us. Tea was served at the low table, and our bedding was... More

Kanazawa is one the mistake we made during our holidays in Japan: the garden/park is certainly nice, but that's the only thing whish seems nice in this very touristic city. The ryokan was located in a street with many dodgy bars (which looked like hookers place). The ryokan in itself looks kind of old and rusty, the rooms are smelly... More

A little mom and pop ryokan a block down the street from a lively shopping and restaurant district. A nice little oasis of calm. The rooms are a bit dated and the amenities are spare but the service was friendly (although not quite as friendly as what we encountered elsewhere), the location is nice, and the space is comfortable. We... More

Earlier reviews were helpful in lowering my expectations but, still, this place was on the edge for me. Our ground floor room smelled damp and the whole place was cramped, stuffy, smelly and dilapidated. on the plus side, the location was excellent. It is off a street that is the Harajuku of Kanazawa so our 17 year old son was... More

Murataya’s advertisements lead us to believe that we would find traditional Japanese hospitality there, the sort we found elsewhere in Japan, based on cleanliness and good manners. We did not. It was disappointing from the start: the man who showed us to our room seemed hostile and preoccupied with our luggage (though we only had a cabin bag each), which... More

Dear Guest, Thank you sincerely for your comments, we must apologize most deeply to you for your dissapointment. Now the restroom( include ladies' toilet & gentlemens' toilet) is reconstructing , so we will have a new comfortable restroom in March ,2014. We have managed our inn for about 60 years. Unfotunately our facilities are not the newest ones in fact... More
