My room was superb, the staff friendly and helpful (they sorted out Takayubin for my bag) and the food was wonderful. Seriously, the food was fantastic - I'm a vegetarian (no fish) so this always worries me. I sorted out food in advance via email which was simple to do. My room had air conditioning which was much appreciated since... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and from the moment we walked in to the moment we left were treated really well. The rooms were beautifully laid out and quite large. We had a room with a private toilet but used the shared bathroom. The bathroom was a sanctuary and the deep soaking bath fantastic. We also chose the Japanese... More

As everyone says, this place is great.Spent 35 days in Japan and stayed in 8 different Ryokans and for the price of this Ryokan would have to rate as one of the best.Very helpful staff and owners, off course the food was great and to top it off, Kanazawa city is a very nice place.

This ryokan is lovely, nice rooms, very friendly and helpful staff. Close to everything and they lent us bikes at no charge to explore the city. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. Good price compared to other places we stayed. would recommend.

Love the breakfast and Japanese tea they prepare. The toilet is sparkly clean. It is a short walk from Kanazawa Station and walking distance to most of the city's attractions. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

Should have stayed longer. The owner, Mie, was totally wonderful- arranged every last detail of our experience in Kanazawa, and always with a smile. The food was great, and plentiful, the location perfect.

Sumiyoshiya offers a wonderful Japanese guesthouse (ryokan) experience in the warmest imaginable environment. Everyday, guests are greeted with the sincerest hospitality. The entire guesthouse is impeccably clean, and the location is terrific. As a bonus, Mie speaks great English and will help with every tourist question. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience!!

We followed the positive reviews of others to this ryokan – our first experience of the traditional Japanese inn-style accommodation, and delighted we did. Our room (#12) on the ground floor was spacious, with 3 separate elements – a small ‘entrance’ area and private toilet, our main room, and a separate space with wash basin/mirror, and luggage area with windows... I stayed at sumiyoshiya for 2 nights in winter. The location is only a short walk away from the markets and the samurai and geisha districts which is very handy. The host here goes above and beyond to make sure you have an amazing stay. The room was lovely and big and had a nice view out onto the garden.... More

Our host Mie spoke beautiful English, and was so kind to help us make my parent's 41st wedding anniversary really special. She was considerate, adaptable, and really responsive. The courtyard views were gorgeous, and the only possible improvement might be changing fluro light globes for warmer colours! Thanks again!
