The Sumiyoshiya is a wonderful Ryokan. The room was very comfortable Japanese style. The room we had was small without toilet, but no problem. The hotel is located within walking distance to most attractions in downtown. Indeed convenient. Hotel owner and staffs very attentive and friendly. Clean and comfortable room. It is kind of the ryokan to provide extension of check out time. Empathetic indeed. Overall decent and solid run ryokan.

A wonderful surprise on a quick stop between major sights - a relaxing, quiet, traditional Japanese experience with great friendly hosts. Really enjoyed the dinner at the Ryokan too. The Kenrokuen gardens are beautiful and seafood at the markets well worth sampling :-)

We loved our stay here. The location was great, near the city, market and castle. The room was large and we appreciated the tea and sweets provided in our room.
