Coming from the North of Japan, we maybe have to get accustomed to the higher priced southern part but this Minshuku is just an efficient and quite comfortable way of spending your nights at Takayama. Not much more. We thought it was a bit on the pricy side looking at the place which is quite basic (but that could just... More

Of course, shared amenities, that is what anyone who knew Japan would expect in a family run business. No problem, but maybe a little surprising for first time visitors! Maybe bring a towel with you if you are unfamiliar with the customs. I walked everywhere! Got up early to miss the tourists and strolled down the quiet, ancient streets. This... More

The young woman who greeted us was friendly. The tatami room was spacious for our family of four. Shared amenities for washing up and toilet. Nice onsen. Centrally located so we could walk to the main areas in this lovely town. Had a great time.

I've been there before. It has something that the other hotels don't have. And that is the ONSEN bath. It has two beds inside. And a table, and a TV. It's quite wide. If you have a lot of luggage then you're in luck. You can left there beacause it's very wide. Just like i say. So anyway, that is... More

We stayed here for two nights over the New Year period. We have stayed in ryokans before but this was our first time where we had to share amenities. The shared amenities were no problem as we never saw anyone else in the onsen nor did you have to wait for the toilet. Our family of four (2A + 2C)... More

Well located inn - does not claim to be a ryokan. We travelled in early January, with outside temperatures falling to -8C at night. Traditional Minshuku rooms are standard - tatami mats and futons with free wifi. These rooms do not have en-suite facilites, and one uses the clean common toilets and baths. The biggest issue for us was the... More

The hotel is conveniently located near the train station. Everything is walking distance with a lot of restaurants closed by. Even though it costed a lot more to have private bath room, we would like to have our privacy. The only problem we have is our room is on the 2nd floor next to lady room. We had 2 big... More

Staying in a ryokan takes some getting used to, as my partner found. Shared shower and bath, making up your own bed, early dinners.... Everything that makes it special and different to a 'typical' hotel. It is a great location to enjoy the festival from as you can walk into town within 10 mins but feel like you are so... More

This was my first stay at a ryokan. It was very special. We had what I think was a great room. The price was fantastic and the location could not be beat - easy to walk to from the train/bus station. The room had its own air conditioning/heating unit, which was great given that some heating was needed while we... More

We stayed one night in this ryokan and should probably have spent another night in Takayama: this is a great place ! Everything was nice about this ryokan: it's cheap, clean, nicely decorated, the breakfast was good, the hosts were nice and helpful. One of the place we liked most !
