We stayed in this ryokan during our round trip through Japan. We booked the small traditional Japanese room with the tatami bed. The rooms are somewhat outdated, but the extremely friendly staff is unforgettable. We enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and the Japanese breakfast was also great. It is about a 10 minutes form the train station.

This place is simply lovely, the staff and in particular the owner are so warm and welcoming, the traditional futon rooms are very comfortable and the Japanese meals a lovely way to sample local cuisine. We used the Onsen baths one evening and were lucky enough to have them to ourselves which was a great way to relax after a... More

Fabulous authentic Japanese Roykan - from the welcome to the room, the staff and the food, we had an excellent stay. Our evening bath after the long day of sightseeing allowed a very civilized transition to our night on very comfortable futons, and a wonderful breakfast. Highly recommended

Our family of 5 enjoyed this experience. We were welcomed and shown to our beautifully presented room. After some tea and a rest we wandered around town and returned for our dinner. An amazing array of foods, all beautifully presented, was served on our table. It was so inviting that we tried and enjoyed just about everything. After dinner our... More

My first time staying in a ryokan. We booked this ryokan based on some reviews and didn't have much expectation but we left surely impressed. Location is 7-8 minute walk from station. We stayed 2 nights, from the moment we walked in, old ladies in traditional kimono fussed over and welcomed us. We chose 2 meals per day, kaiseki dinner... More

High Quality Ryokan. Cost us around 16000yen per person for the smallest room. Kaiseki was nice with Hida Beef. There's 4 onsen inside the hotel. 2 near the lobby. 2 at the back. Located at the center of takayama, very close to all tourist attractions. located next to the preserved alley of takayama. couldn't find anything wrong with this ryokan.... More

We stayed at this lovely ryokan during our Honeymoon whilst in Takayama, and it was a great experience. This ryokan is definitely representative of the "ryokan experience" if you are looking for something like that when in Takayama. We enjoyed the breakfast, dinner and the baths. The room was beautifully decorated. The location of this ryokan is fantastic - walking... More

It was my first Ryokan experience and it was positive, although one needs to enjoy Japanese food (which we are not) to really enjoy the place. They serve very large dinner and impressive dinner, but we had eaten only small part of it (due to our taste). The place is well organized and the rooms are large. The service is... More

It is difficult to separate out my opinion of this particular ryokan from my opinion of a ryokan in general. My only previous experience of a ryokan was a luxury ryokan near Matsumoto. The welcome and check-in were quick and friendly. The lady who owns the ryokan was very helpful and spoke adequate English. Our room, the top level in... More

This offers a good roykan experience for a town, and includes a great traditional kaiseki meal. The staff all seem to be older ladies who are a bit eccentric, and we did visit hotels with onsen with better settings during our trip to Japan, but for the price we thought this offered a reasonable deal. We also liked Takayama itself... More
