We had a great time at this ryokan, our room was enormous and very comfortable. The private onsen, in a wonderful setting, were clean and relaxing. Top service and very tasty traditional food complete the picture. The only downside are the surroundings which don't have much to offer. Anyway, we really enjoyed our 2 days and will definitely head to... More

It was a long journey from Tokyo. Especially in winter the trains and the bus can be delayed, which caused our trip to occupy nearly a whole day, forth and also back. If you are a little bit more fortunate with the weather and the connections than we were, it should take a much shorter time though, the total transportation... More

We stayed here for one night as part of our honeymoon trip. It is easy to get to using the buses from Hiyaru Onsen and the bus stop is right outside the Onsen which is handy. It is essentially a traditional Japanese inn which feels very rustic with an atmospheric burning irori in the reception area and several baths to... More

We stayed two nights (September 2014) at this amazing traditional Japanese ryokan. We had a – what seemed to be – a real authentic Japanese ryokan apartment with a sitting room and adjacent garden view room, open fire place room with the fire prepared and ready to light to cook tea in the tea pot hanging from the ceiling, a... We have such fond memories of Yumoto Choza, and we only stayed there one night! It was pretty booked when arranging our travels, but we knew we had to try it. We were visiting during November and we could see the red leaves of the changing trees from our window. It was a magical time. The reception area with fur... More

I say this with all the experience of an ignorant tourist, but Yumoto Choza felt like a taste of authentic, traditional Japan. The entrance is tucked away at the end of a leafy path and you're greeted by dark wooden floors and a kettle fire pit to your right. All the staff were polite & friendly and did everything to... Our family stayed one night in Yumoto Choza one autumn a few years ago. So my experience will certainly need updating. We absolutely enjoyed our stay even though we paid a lot for the three of us. As one of us had never stepped foot inside a Japanese bath, the private baths, which were large outdoor pools, came in handy... More

We visited for 1 night in September 2011. It was absolutely fantastic and I have wonderful memories. We were travelling Japan for 6 weeks and this was - by a long way - our most luxurious night. We arrived through a variety of public transport means ending with a bus that stopped down the hill. We walked up and down... More

My family and I stayed in late November (it was already beginning to snow). The ryokan is located in the heart of the Japanese alps, and is therefore far, FAR away from the bustle of the big cities. You should plan almost a full day to get there from either Tokyo or Kyoto, and stay for at least a couple... More

We were here in October 2011 when the forest foliage was intensely coloured and the skies were clear and blue. The Yumoto Cyouza was so in keeping with its surroundings from every aspect - the building seemed to be made from beautiful old wood and the food was incredible - by far the best food experience we had in Japan....
